DNC Convention Day 1: The Picturing

So here are some shots from today. I got to go on the floor for about a half hour and its pretty insane. At any given moment you could run into Ed Rendell. Not, like “Oh hi Ed Rendell”, but physically BAM Ed Rendell is on the floor and Oh My God who will bitch about MSNBC’s coverage of Obama now?

I saw Bob Schieffer walking through the hallways with an entourage as if he were relevant, as well as Jeff Greenfield talking to someone in the hallway like he knows what he’s talking about. I’m writing this from Nerd Central The Blogger Lounge, which is a row of wired up desks and some couches with way too bright lights. It is sort of a weird way to experience the convention, not quite as fake as tv, but not quite real enough to compete with reality. We’ll see how it goes.

I know some hate when I make these kinds of observations, but Fox News’ Megyn Kelly proved that in person, not everything is bad about Fox. On to the photographic nonsense (including the most ridiculous picture of Anderson Cooper ever):The religious far right continues to preach their message of love and inclusion

The convention center has a giant bear looking inside. I don’t know why. But he could probably give Mothra a fight.

In this picture are more minorities than you will find at the RNC convention, besides the ones they bus in for t.v. And Michael Steele.

You cannot stop Wolf Blitzer. You can only hope to contain him. Barely.

    Oliver,

    Remember, she’s evil.

  2. Michael says:

Great pictures and captions. Damnit ot hell Megyn is hot.

  3. Mungen_Cakes says:

    Great photos OW. Thanks.

Can I ask you why I deserve hell? I’ll take my answer off the air.

  4. Vanessa says:

So that, “ASK ME WHY YOU DESERVE HELL” sign is for real? I might like to ask. It would probably be amusing.

  5. Quaker in a Basement says:

Nice job with the photos. More like that, please. And thanks for avoiding “Bloggers taking pictures of bloggers who are blogging.”

  6. Thanks all.

Re: The “hell” picture, there were these really nice guys (NOT) lining 16th street, which is this large shopping area, with signs telling people about how they were going to hell unless they repented and – I kid you not – how “Homo Sex Is A Threat To National Security”. That sort of thing usually gets a rise out of people, now imagine that said people consist largely of liberals and liberal activists and protesters. Stir, mix, confrontation.

Oh, and as I watched this Dick Gephardt walked in front of me.

It’s the kind of situation that leads one to take more pictures of Megyn Kelly.

I will try to get more pictures of your favorite media and political figures tomorrow. I did see Darryl Hannah taking pictures in front of a stand where an insurance company was giving out free bikes for people to use. IT IS SURREAL HERE.

  7. Parthenon says:

Glad Ted made it. Hope you got to see him, I know you were looking forward to it.

  8. Dr. Monkey says:

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing them. Rock on man!

I am feeling guilty, Oliver, I am enjoying your transmissions too much. Maybe I should enjoy what I can, if Hillary gives a tepid passive-aggressive speech tonight. Anyway, boffo! Great pics.

I would like to request more up close leg shots of Megyn Kelly. Nice Work Oliver

Um. Yeah, sorry about not closing the A tag there. More coffee. Anyhow, great photos.

Fox News’ Kelly asked whether Michelle Obama gave “her critics fodder” with word she didn’t say

Summary: Fox News’ Megyn Kelly noted that during her DNC speech Michelle Obama said, “The world as it is just won’t do,” and then Kelly continued: “If you replace ‘world’ with ‘country’, you are back to the same debate, arguably, that you have been having about Michelle Obama’s feelings about the country. Did she give her critics any fodder with that comment?”
