“American Issues Project” Ayers Ad Is McCain Campaign In Drag

From the Obama folks in response to the tired ad running now attacking Sen. Obama for BOOGEDY BOOGEDY BOOGEDY knowing William Ayers.

“The fact that John McCain dispatched his paid consultant to launch this despicable ad from a so-called ‘independent’ committee shows how desperate he is to change the subject from his shocking disconnect with the economic struggles of the American people. He knows that Barack Obama has denounced the detestable crimes that Bill Ayers committed forty years ago. Instead of invoking Paris, Britney and obscure sixties radicals, Senator McCain should take the day off at one of his seven homes to consider whether his support for outsourcing, tax breaks for companies who ship jobs overseas and continued spending of ten billion a month in Iraq is really putting ‘country first.’ To us, it sounds like just more of the same.” – Tommy Vietor

Thats not change we can believe in, my friends.

Wow, he didn’t call McCain old once!

  2. Duros Hussein 62 says:

    Though he could have..

“He knows that Barack Obama has denounced the detestable crimes that Bill Ayers committed forty years ago”…. back when John McCain was middle-aged.

    BADUM-CHING!

  3. SaveFarris says:

Shorter Obama: Hey, look over there! And for God sakes, don’t go to the library!

Credit where it’s due: He didn’t use old once. That’s one…

  4. z_adura says:

In his 70 years, John McCain has 5.5 years of heroism and 65 years of shame. If McCain and the idiot wingers around here want to get into a righteous challenge of personal integrity, I assure you this contest is over.

  5. Duros Hussein 62 says:

    Hey, Farris?

    Charles Keating.

Enough with the William Ayers now.

  6. Jay Tea says:

Duros, if you got evidence that Keating and McCain were as intertwined as Ayers and Obama, I’d love to see it.

Ayers hosted the gathering that launched Obama’s political career.

Ayers and Obama oversaw the Annenberg Challenge together for years. (Oddly enough, the records of just what occurred there are being kept from public view — like so much of Obama’s record.)

Ayers is an absolutely unrepentant former terrorist, a near-perfect counterpart to Timothy McVeigh.

It is only through prosecutorial screw-ups that Ayers was not sent to prison.

As recently as 2006, he was still talking proudly of his days as a terrorist leader — even saying things like “we didn’t set off enough bombs.”

That might not be the Bill Ayers Barack Obama knew, but it’s the Bill Ayers that the rest of the nation knows.

  7. Duros Hussein 62 says:

Duros, if you got evidence that Keating and McCain were as intertwined as Ayers and Obama, I’d love to see it.

Intertwined? Seriously? You mean like almost not at all?

  8. Jay Tea says:

Every single word in that ad is 100% accurate. Ayers, longtime Obama friend and ally, was a leader of a group that declared war on the US government, bombed the Capitol Building, killed a cop, and committed numerous other terrorist attacks. Ayers is not only unrepentant, but proud of it and said as recently as 2006 that maybe they didn’t do enough.

Next to Ayers, Reverend Wright looks like Billy Graham.

  9. matt621 says:

    BOOGEDY BOOGEDY BOOGEDY?

    Racist.

  10. Mikey says:

Point by point, rebutting Jay Tea’s load of right-wing crap…

“Ayers hosted the gathering that launched Obama’s political career.”

A lie. Ayers hosted a fundraiser for longtime Chicago politician Alice Palmer. Obama was a guest at the fundraiser as a supporter of Palmer, along with 100 other people.

“Ayers and Obama oversaw the Annenberg Challenge together for years. (Oddly enough, the records of just what occurred there are being kept from public view — like so much of Obama’s record.)”

They didn’t oversee the challenge “together.” They served on a board that did so. A board that contained Republicans and many of the city’s business leaders. It’s a respected, apolitical educational foundation. And you know damn well that UIC can’t release the records of the foundation without the donor’s permission — likely because it would violate the privacy of the foundation’s many donors.

“Ayers is an absolutely unrepentant former terrorist, a near-perfect counterpart to Timothy McVeigh.”

Really? No, really? This is your argument? You’re short about 168 dead Americans (killed by *conservative, right-wing* terrorism) on that analogy.

Unless you’re going to have us all believe that McVeigh would be a crusty, old college professor somewhere, helping to run an educational charity for inner-city children, if he hadn’t been executed.

This is hilarious… one body blow from the Obama campaign, pouncing on one of the four McCain gaffes this week, and McCain camp and his band of smear merchants try to go nuclear (with a story that’s over four months old and nobody bought the first time around).

“It is only through prosecutorial screw-ups that Ayers was not sent to prison.”

Kinda means it wasn’t and open-and-shut case, then, doesn’t it? And it still means that he was never convicted, unlike McCain’s major benefactor and convicted felon pal, Charles Keating, who donated huge sums of money to McCain’s campaign. Your attempt to lie your way out of this by falsely claiming that Obama was closer to Ayers is absolutely laughable.

  11. duh says:

Mikey, any links to demonstrate ANY of your points? Cause it sure goes against the current wisdom….except for the McVay part, thats true. Right wing wackos are WAY more effective than left wing wackos…I think that is clear. So clearly they aren’t counter-parts.

  12. fafaroo says:

“Duros, if you got evidence that Keating and McCain were as intertwined as Ayers and Obama, I’d love to see it.”

    Are you kidding?

McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981.[8] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in lawful[14] political contributions from Keating and his associates.[15] In addition, McCain’s wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating’s expense, sometimes aboard Keating’s jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating’s opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[6][16]”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

Obama was no where near as close to Ayers as McCain was to Keating. The fucking vacationed together at Keating’s private fucking beach (hilarious in the context of McCain’s recent lie about private beaches in hawaii).

Do you do you even a shred of research before you open your idiot mouth, Jay Tea?

  13. duh says:

Some Farf, where was the part about Keating helping McCain to buy his personal residence….I missed that.

Or do you REALLY want to open the guilt by association link…?

  14. fafaroo says:

    And another thing, Jay Tea.

Your list of five points about Obama’s intertwined relationship with Ayers actually only includes two points of contact between Ayers and Obama: attendance at a political fundraiser for some other candidate and membership on the same board of directors for a major non-profit education organization.

The other three are just complaints about Ayers.

So in you want to compare Obama/Rezko with McCain/Keating, Obama’s relationship with Ayers was completely tangential while McCain and Keating were best buds for years.

  15. Jay says:

Obama was no where near as close to Ayers as McCain was to Keating. The fucking vacationed together at Keating’s private fucking beach (hilarious in the context of McCain’s recent lie about private beaches in hawaii).

The last time I checked, Charles Keating wasn’t setting of nail bombs the way Bill Ayers was and then years later saying he had no regrets doing it and spouting that the hadn’t done enough.

  16. Jay says:

Kinda means it wasn’t and open-and-shut case, then, doesn’t it? And it still means that he was never convicted

    Chuckle. And OJ was innocent.

    What a tool.

  17. Jay says:

Oh and another thing about the whole “Keating Five” bullshit. McCain was basically told by the Senate Ethics Committee that he “exercised bad judgment” (Gee, kind of like Obama and his sweet deal with Tony Rezko) for his involvement, which was minimal at best. And that was the extend of ‘punishment’ that he received.

People seem to forget the rest of the FIVE:

    Dennis DeConcini – Democrat
    John Glenn – Democrat
    Alan Cranston – Democrat
    Don Riegle – Democrat

  18. Zython says:

Chuckle. And Oliver North was innocent.

    Fixed your typo.

  19. Bill L. says:

    Shorter Jay,

“McCain may have had direct and troubling ties to Charles Keating, but the other four clowns involved in the S&L scandal were Democrats and Obama is a Democrat PLUS he’s black, just like Bill Ayers! Case closed!”

  20. Jay Tea says:

Hey, here’s a news flash! Did you know Bill Ayers is black? I sure as hell didn’t, and I’ve seen quite a few pictures of the guy.

Thanks for the update, Bill L.

  21. juhar says:

All of McCain’s ad, like this one about Bill Ayers, are designed as headlines to appeal of less educated White people who harbor bias against people of color and not inclined to investigate Bill Ayers to find out who he was or who he is today. Knowledge is power.

After reading about a biography of Bill Ayers I visited the http://www.billayers.com website and was quite surprised. No one can be reduced to a headline.

  22. juhar says:

the Bill Ayers’ link is http://billayers.wordpress.com/

  23. Jay Tea says:

That’s nice, Jufar. He’s an enlightened, senstive, thoughtful, literate unrepentant ex-terrorist. Who as recently as 2006 thought that bombing the Capitol Building and killing a cop wasn’t enough; they should have set off more bombs (and, presumably, killed more people).

Tell you what, Jufar. Make it simple for the rest of us. Give us the exchange rate for terrorist acts for good deeds, so we can all properly assess Ayers on your scale.

    J.

  24. juhar says:

Jay Tea, you just posted Bill Ayers is an ex-terrorist. End of story.

We’re after today’s terrorists. Well some of us who believe Osama Bin Laden is still relevant. Ain’t worried about location of ex-terrorists, worried about the location of current and future terrorists.

  25. Jay Tea says:

No, not end of story. Do I think that Ayers is gonna plant more bombs, try to kill more people? Probably not. But he’s in a position to hold remarkable influence over young, impressionable people, as of 2006 he STILL believes in the rightness of what he did, and he apparently STILL believes that what he did was justified. He has NO business teaching.

But Obama had no problems working with him on a variety of “social causes.”

It’s not the “ex-terrorist” that is the significant element here, it’s the “unrepentant” that is the key.

Unless, of course, you’re looking for excuses for the guy. And his associates.

    J.

  26. Jay Tea says:

You know where a good place to look for future terrorists might be, Juhar? How about in Bill Ayers’ classroom. That seems a good starting point.

    J.

  27. Duros Hussein62 says:

You know where a good place to look for future terrorists might be, Juhar?

    Pakistan?

Why do I get the feeling this whole hot mess comes right out of Corsi’s book?

None of them are running for president, Wankee fan. In fact, all of them lost thir jobs right after the scandal. McCain / Keating five are most relevant, especailly when you count the 124.6 billion in taxpayer costs.

  29. aw says:

    Jay Tea,

after you’ve been caught telling a whole boatload of stupid lies, the prudent thing to do is to shut the hell up.

And that nonentity, Bill Ayers, is not going to be Vice President, or in the administration. Okay, you stupid fuck? Or shall we bring up all Bush’s criminal cronies again? Compare and contrast?

  30. Jay Tea says:

Aw, I got aw all upset. I feel so guilty.

But pardon me while I savor the stupid:

And that nonentity, Bill Ayers, is not going to be Vice President, or in the administration. Okay, you stupid fuck? Or shall we bring up all Bush’s criminal cronies again?

And Bush IS going to be in the next administration?

Deny it all you want, Ayers has been a significant player in Obama’s life. So was Tony Rezko. So was Jeremiah Wright. Just because those folks are no longer helpful to Obama doesn’t mean that they will all disappear with a wave of a magic wand.

As I said, I don’t see much difference between Ayers and Timothy McVeigh. Call ‘em mirror images or counterparts. One of ‘em got justice. The other got lauded and rewarded.

    J.

  31. aw says:

Okay, I am just about crying with laughter here.

Aw, I got aw all upset. I feel so guilty.

You feel guilty because you’re a liar? Well, that’s progress I suppose.

But pardon me while I savor the stupid: [...] And Bush IS going to be in the next administration?

There is a reason you can taste the stupid. You are MADE OUT of stupid.

You are a raving, loony, fucking liar. Step one: read this. Step two: shut up. Don’t whine and bitch and puke, you can either shut up, or go back to your shithouse of a blog and complain about how Obama met somebody at a committee, you fat-assed, lying, loony little prick.

  32. Duros Hussein 62 says:

Deny it all you want, Ayers has been a significant player in Obama’s life. So was Tony Rezko. So was Jeremiah Wright.

1 out of 3 have been significant. Keep swinging for the fences, Jay.

Just because those folks are no longer helpful to Obama doesn’t mean that they will all disappear with a wave of a magic wand.

Not as long as you guys keep flogging them, like Jim McDuggal.

  33. Jay Tea says:

It’s always so satisfying when your opponents are reduced to blithering, swearing idiots.

    1) Obama and Ayers met at Ayers’ home when State Senator Alice Palmer was introducing Obama, her political heir apparent, to people she thought would be helpful to him. Repeat: Obama’s “coming out party” was held in Ayers’ home.

    2) Ayers founded the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and played a major role in its works. Obama served on the board for seven years, four of them as chairman. We don’t know more details, because the University of Illinois in Chicago is stonewalling on the records.

The Annenberg Challenge consisted of three bodies: The Chicago School Reform Collaborative, co-chaired by Ayers; a Board of Directors recruited by Ayers, with Obama first as Chairman for four years and later, for three years, as a member; and the Chicago Schools Research Consortium.

Yup. Real tangential ties there. Ayers hosted the party where Obama had his “coming-out,” recruited Obama to head up a division of the CAC, and the two served as heads of brother divisions of the CAC, but rarely spoke and barely knew each other.

Do YOUR homework, aw. You’re starting to make Strowbridge look like George Will.

Oh, and as far as your demands of me:

You are a raving, loony, fucking liar. Step one: read this. Step two: shut up. Don’t whine and bitch and puke, you can either shut up, or go back to your shithouse of a blog and complain about how Obama met somebody at a committee, you fat-assed, lying, loony little prick.

You don’t run this site any more than I do. We are both guests of the guy what pays the bills. It’s HIS right to say that and make it stick, not yours — unless he chooses to grant you that privilege.

    J.

  34. Duros Hussein 62 says:

    Question, Jay:

In any of Obama’s dealings with Ayers, is there any indication that Obama waa aware of Ayer’s past? If he was, you might have a point. But if Obama was just dealing with Ayers on a professional level and knew nothing of his past dealings, acts etc., then I fail to see the relevence or the connection, i.e., Ayers=domestic terrorist Obama=Obama is a terrorist.

    Give it a rest already.

  35. juhar says:

Jay Tea, total respect for your opponents they are looking for terrorists in Pakistan and not Bill Ayers’ classroom.

  36. SaveFarris says:

Duros, how comforting to know that Obama doesn’t do even a smidgen of homework on the people he works with. That trait should serve him well should he become … you know … the head of the Executive Branch.

  37. Parthenon says:

As I said, I don’t see much difference between Ayers and Timothy McVeigh. Call ‘em mirror images or counterparts. One of ‘em got justice. The other got lauded and rewarded.

Wanting to kill is the same as killing? Not legally it isn’t. Not morally in my book. But I could see someone believing that, I guess.

  38. Duros Hussein 62 says:

Oh stop it, Farris. Do you know the background of everybody you work with?

  39. Duros Hussein 62 says:

And don’t give me that “I’m not running for President” bullshit either.

  40. aw says:

It is doubly amusing when your brain-dead war-loving opponents are forced to descend to smearing, and scraping and scraping that barrel for guilt by association… and then criticize you for swearing. Ha ha fucking ha. Stick it up your holier-than-thou butt, you little shit.

Do YOUR homework, aw. You’re starting to make Strowbridge look like George Will.

Oh yes, continue to babble and blither about Bill Ayers from here into eternity. Bush, Cheney and all their friends have gotten tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people killed for no reason. Bush and his friends have suffered no consequences. And here you are whining about how some old posturing hippy said something nasty. Why? in the hope of somehow getting a criminal gang back into power so that a disastrous war can be extended for decades more. It’s not just pathetic, it’s physically nauseating.

Oh, and as far as your demands of me: [...] You don’t run this site any more than I do. We are both guests of the guy what pays the bills. It’s HIS right to say that and make it stick, not yours — unless he chooses to grant you that privilege.

WOW! I never knewz that! Oliver owns the BLOGG! Thankz Mister GENIUSS!!!

  41. Jay Tea says:

Duros, to say that Obama knew nothing about Ayers’ background would require almost a conspiracy of silence. Ayers is no wallflower, and he has that air of “radical chic” about him that would pretty much guarantee that his background in the Weather Underground — which were his major life credentials — would have been the subject of much discussion. For Obama to NOT know about it would require him to not only be incredibly, amazingly uncurious, but to actively avoid hearing anyone even once allude to Ayers’ background.

Parthenon, I see your point. But what I’m saying is that both McVeigh and Ayers were committed to a violent overthrow of the government, using bombs and taking lives. McVeigh died utterly unrepentant of his crimes; Ayers has been quoted as saying that maybe they didn’t bomb enough. The major difference seems to be Ayers preferred to keep his hands clean, and the Weather Underground was considerably more incompetent than McVeigh. So I do see them as rough parallels, and I can’t give Ayers any more slack than I give McVeigh. As they say, “it’s the thought that counts.” No, not in the eyes of the law, but in mine.

Juhar: nothing says you can’t do both. But I was speaking metaphorically — I would not be surprised in the least if Ayers was using his classroom to pass along his beliefs and morals (”blowing up Congress is good!”) to young, impressionable minds. The man has NO business in a classroom — except, perhaps, as a specimen for Abnormal Psych or Law Enforcement.

    J.

  42. aw says:

Meanwhile, from the Annals of Preening, Hypocritical Blah:

As they say, “it’s the thought that counts.” No, not in the eyes of the law, but in mine.

If it’s thought that makes one a criminal, you must be pretty safe.

  43. Megadrone says:

    To All:

Let’s face facts, They are both “Politian’s” so that makes both of them “Liars” & “Hypocrites”.

So just get off your bandwagons or your soapboxes (which ever your prefer).

  44. walliat kahn says:

Wow! – The ad is working. Obama is upset because the truth about him is comming out.

  45. Kerry says:

    WOW!

So, Ayers was a hippie radical in the 60’s and Obama met him in the 80’s at a party that he attended with a state senator…who brought him there.

Let’s see, he’s guilty of what? Attending a party with a senator who introduced him to Ayers who was a professor and who was not convicted of any crime.

And then…oh yea, Obama was on the board of the Annenberg Challenge…an organization that existed to improve school performance through professional developement and technical assistance. Wow…yea, that’s some pretty radical stuff, all right. I’m sure that Obama was REALLY THERE to improve his ties with the old hippie radical in hopes that Ayers would renew his effort to stop the Viet Nam War, as were all the other so called civically minded folks who were a part of the Annenberg Challenge.

And Ayers probably discussed bombing goverment as part of the regular board meeting and encouraged the board members to become terrorists AND thus Obama is probably now actually a terrorist and his REAL agenda is to overthrow the goverment and then turn us all into muslims and then give our whole country to Osama Bin Laden.

Come on people. The only reason for these kind of ads is to scare people and distract them from the real issues of this country. And to insure that the powers that be continue to control this country.

One man paid 2.8 million dollars to run the Ayers add. What do YOU think HIS interests are?
