Not Getting Updates?

I’ve been hearing from folks that for some of you you’re not getting the latest version of the site at OliverWillis.com. I’m not sure what’s going on because I’m getting the site fine on multiple machines and browsers. Try and clear your cache, maybe?

Both comments and pings are currently closed.

Oliver, are you using any kind of caching plugin? I had a couple of visitors complain about not seeing updated versions of my site when I was trying out WP-SuperCache. I moved to that plugin’s predecessor, WP-Cache, and have had no more of those problems reported. Otherwise, dunno.

I have Firefox set to delete EVERYTHING when I exit, cookies, cache, swiss bank account passwords, but yesterday, I was looking at your site from three days earlier.

I wasn’t sure what to make of this deja vu, so I whipped out my submachine gun and immediately shot the two bastards in the black suits entering the coffee shop.

(The first paragraph was true, the second, not so much.)

  3. Crusty Dem says:

Pretty strange stuff, I’ve been getting old versions on the mobile version on my iPhone, which doesn’t really have a cache to speak of, I think. Also older versions sometimes w/Firefox on my laptop.

  4. Dr. Monkey says:

That’s all I’m getting is updates. When I click on your “Home” button it takes me back the main page from a week ago.

  5. I was using some of the caching plugins but I don’t know why its showing up like that for some and not others (like me). I’ve deactivated the plugins now, please lemme know if you’re still seeing the old site.

I defragmented my drive, emptied my cache and the next time I went on it was stuck from four days prior. Oddly enough, out of curiosity I clicked on the archive of Jan. 06, clicked on a random post, and the newest comments ticker on the right side of the page was current.

  7. Michael says:

Still not getting the newest version of the home page from Firefox but it’s coming in fine in Safari. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one, sometimes its hard to get large scale internet problems fixed when you’re in a small country.

  8. Scratch says:

I just now saw this post, and it’s October ‘08, so I must be having the same problem.

BTW, can you believe what happened at the Clinton/McCain debate last night?

  9. Vanessa says:

I’m using Firefox on a Mac and everything is a-ok.

  10. Jay says:

Firefox and IE were ok. I updated iTunes and decided to give Safari a whirl, and that was showing old stuff, but that was a few days ago. Funny because Safari on my iPod touch was good.

  11. Repack Rider says:

I get the recent version on one of my computers, the other is like Groundhog Day, stuck on August 12.

Both running the same OS, and Firefox, but at different locations. The one where I get the current version of OW is on dial-up.

  12. buma says:

For 3 days I saw the ‘McCain fever’ post at teh top of the list, with the photo of sleeping McCainiacs. Now which person is Jay Tea and which is just Jay?

  13. Parthenon says:

    Echoing Repack…

Laptop at home, newest. Public machine at the school, Aug. 12. Home wireless, school cable. Same OS.

  14. JWG says:

Home running Safari on Mac OS — works.
Public school running Safari and Firefox on Mac OS — does not work (unless I add the specific date in the URL).

  15. jerry says:

Right now, and I mean just now, I opened up your page in FF, IE, and Opera. I use FF 99.9% of the time. Opera came up and hadn’t even been configured yet (I had a complete reinstall of Windows last week.)

Regardless, ALL of these three browsers showed me a page from August 12th starting with this post:

    http://www.oliverwillis.com/2008/08/12/mccainiacs/

As I said, FF deletes its cache, and I doubt that IE and Opera somehow share a cache. Unless Sprint is somehow caching your page, I think the issue is (over at your site). :(

  16. Mister Steve says:

Weird… your site showed the 8/12 page as most recent until just now. That was even the case when I called it up on IE, which I have never used for your site.

  17. fafaroo says:

I have firefox on a mac at work that gets the latest pages fine. At home on my pc (Windows vista) firefox doesn’t get the latest pages, just brings up the page from August 12 that Jerry links to above.

I’ve tried clearing the cache at home and nada.

Won’t know til tonight if it’s working at home yet or not.

  18. jerry says:

FF is currently showing what I think is your most recent page, an article about Obama On McCain’s Fundraiser With The Corrupt Ralph Reed.

  19. Yeah I think I may have finally figured out the error.

  20. jerry says:

Maybe it’s borken again. Now when I get to your site, ALL I CAN SEE IS JESSICA ALBA and my screen is completely overwhelmed by her huge….

    Presence and charisma.

  21. mambochicken23 says:

OW, the site is still broken for me. I’ve used Firefox and Safari, both after resetting them. I can get the new site on my iPhone though.

  22. Matt says:

Safari on MAc at home is fine.

IE on Windows at work is stuck around August 12.

  23. Adabsurdum says:

Woah! I am another who has missed the past few days of posting. I now can see them. IE7 on XP.

  24. fafaroo says:

Works now on my home pc (vista) with firefox. Thanks for the fix.

  25. I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one with this problem. I tried rebooting my computer, using IE, clearing out my temp folder and cache (even though I have FF dump my cache each time I close), turning and facing Mecca, and still it was stuck on August 12th for several days.

I’m even happier that it’s fixed.

  26. Duros Hussein 62 says:

Mine updates okay, but I have to sign in on every page, it doesn’t remember me from one page to the next. Also, I get Internal Server errors 500, whatever that means.
