Natural

Maybe it’s because he’s a recent veteran of the biggest war to date with the Republican noise machine, but John Kerry has been great as a surrogate for Sen. Obama. We sure botched the vote on that guy in 2004.

  1. Hey Oliver,

While I usually agree with your posts, I thought Kerry was unimpressive at best during last Sunday’s appearance on MEET THE PRESS. Arguably, he had his talking points down, but he was being overwhelmed and shouted over by Joe Lieberman of all people. He should’ve been more forceful with Holy Joe and told him to pipe down and stop interrupting. He tried but it wasn’t happening.

By himself he’s fine, but when matched up with a counterpunch, he takes a back seat and and let’s people talk over him.

Apparently the Straight Talk Express rolls around with an Obama bumper sticker on it!

We sure did. Maybe Kerry’s magic hat could have kept down oil prices. But then again Nancy Pelosi had a plan for that…

I’m just glad that Kerry “lost” so that Monica Goodling could continue to disqualify people for the DOJ if they were suspected of being gay or they had a spouse suspected of voting for a Democrat. Good times.

    Natural what?

    Natural stiff?

    And then there’s this:

“before turning in a highly praised performance on Meet the Press against Democrat turned Democratic-thorn Joseph Lieberman.”

Highly praised by whom? Other Democrats? He was like a petulant little child interrupting and basically acting like a fool. That was the first time in a long time I watched a segment on MTP and Kerry was pathetic.

Please. I’d be happy to have more of John Kerry up front and center in the Obama campaign.

I like Kerry a lot, but he has mostly himself to blame for 2004. In particular, he was way too slow to respond to the Swift-boat lies. And he really thought hiring Bob Shrum _again_ would be a good idea.

But I think he’s pretty good as a talking head right now. And it’s nice to see Obama has a pretty good team in place so far to deal wtih the Republican slur-machine.

  7. Jay is often unable to separate disliking someone and grading their performance. I think Kerry did well on MTP, though I think he pulled punches because he’s used to being cordial in the Senate with Lie-berman.

Not true. Joe Lieberman wasn’t any better making a case for McCain. The whole thing was painful to watch. They’re both mouthpieces for the two campaigns so all they’re doing is repeating the same talking points we’re hearing from other campaign surrogates.

That’s why the “highly praised performance” blather is so absurd.

So according Oliver, Kerry’s been a great surrogate for Obama:

    * at the Center for American Progress
    * on MSNBC
    * at an Obama rally in San Francisco

Way to reach out to the undecideds! OF COURSE he’s going to look more bulldog-ish if all he’s doing is throwing “blue” meat to a rabid base. His only appearance that wasn’t delivered exclusivly to partisans was the MTP appearance which even Oliver admits Kerry pulled punches.

I would LOVE for Kerry & Obama to start believing their own hype and schedule Kerry for appearances in Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and the rest. Go ahead … I double dog dare you.

Would this be the same John Forbes Kerry who recently posed with a bevy of coeds, boozing it up, drinking beer through penis-shaped straws?

    Why. so it is!

You’re right about him being presidential, Oliver. He’s positively Clintonian.

He probably did. But we’ll never really know, will we?

I have never gotten over him and don’t really intend to.

We, as a party, treat our former candidates badly. We shuffle them off to the corners and act like we’re ashamed of them. Kerry, Gore, McGovern, Michael Fucking Dukakis have not done one thing in their lives to make me as ashamed of them as I am of George W. Bush.
