The first few pages of David Freddoso’s book, The Case Against Barack Obama, are marked by false and misleading assertions about Sen. Barack Obama, accompanied by dubious citations. A Media Matters review of the endnotes reveals that the rest of the book is little different from these first few pages, as throughout the book, Freddoso misrepresents or distorts his sources and even makes assertions that are actually refuted by sources he cites.
Many of you might remember this show from a couple years ago, when the con in question was Ann Coulter… but the need to make up facts and phony citations remains. It’s like that’s all conservatives can do, and have no shot at arguing these important issues in an intellectually honest manner.
Or somethin’.
As usual the media immediately hides and debunks a work of media that exposes Obama and refuses to acknowledge yet another American’s warning about the everlasting line of scandals, racism, and conspiracy acts revolving around this presidential candidate. Just like the original You Tubers that informed Americans about Jeremiah Wright (Obama’s mentor and pastor for 25 years) and his churches racist beliefs over 1 year ago we can see yet another labeling of true American patriots being identified as the black sheeps of society. Yet as we all know those You Tubers were actually right all along about Wright and Trinity church just like this guy is probably right as well.
Did the You Tubers post anything more than one clip of Wright going off on a rant tinged with racial bluster and with anything more incendiary than the phrase “God Damn America”?
Did the You Tubers do anything to provide evidence that for 25 years Trinity Church has been a hotbed of racial hatred and that for 25 years Jeremiah Wright has been calling for the death of the white people?
No? Then shut up.

It seems that Freddoso asserts one major theme; Obama is branding himself as the change candidate and his record does not reflect a change or reform candidate, substantiated or unsubstantiated.
The assertions he makes about Obama are very troubling and need to be fully aired and investigated. If the assertions are 50% accurate, we are viewing a very slick narcissistic politician. We need to know prior to November.
If you have evidence that refutes Freddoso’s assertion, publish it.
Fredoso asserts Obama’s political record reflects a politician that only supports positions held by the power brokers. There were opportunities to be the reformer, but there is not a single instance of Obama bucking the positions of the powerful to benefit the people. Freddoso sites numerous occasions were Obama had the opportunity to support reform and chose to stick with the leadership. He sites bills Obama supported and opposed and argues the political rational. Is Obama a different kind of politician or just a good politician?
Fact or fabrication? Shouldn’t we know before we cast our vote for change?
Please site a bill(s) that he sponsored or opposed that had any political risk or jeopardized his standing with Chicago’s political machine in favor of reform.

bradm, you make some good points. However, I still support Obama in terms of both the primary and the GE for a few reasons.
1. Even if the chances for change and reform are low, I’ll still pick Obama, since the chance for those things happening under McCain are 0.
2. Obama supported my right to participate in the Iowa caucus. Clinton did not.
Basically, I may not get what I hoped for with Obama, but he’s certainly alot better than the alternatives.

It’s funny, Feddoso’s little intro to his book calls Obama “The Most Liberal Senator” while conveniently overlooking Bernie Sanders (the self-described socialist), Sherrod Brown (my Senator and who I wish would run for Pres., he’ll get things done), heck, even Hillary!

I will support Barack Obama in November over John McCain, despite Obama’s faults. To say that Obama is a racist and dangerous for being in Jeremiah Wright’s congregation is like saying John McCain is racist and dangerous for taking Barry Goldwater’s seat in the Senate. I don’t agree with my priest even 30% of the time (and the rest of that time is basically what Jesus said and helping the poor), but I still go to church. If you can truly judge a candidate by the company he keeps, if I were to run for office I’d be one heck of a conservative because I can count more conservative friends than liberal ones. Yet I’m still quite the liberaltarian.
When you vote for president, you need to consider what the president can actually DO. John McCain and every conservative pundit on God’s green earth asserts ad nauseam that Obama will “raise taxes.” The president has absolutely no authority to do that, only the House can levy taxes, and only the Senate can approve a budget for the use of said taxes. Sure, he can introduce the idea to Congress, but that would take too much time for what he’s actually itching to do. Oh yeah, and, if you want McCain’s responsible budget plans and domestic ideals, keep him in the Senate, where he can continue to debate and investigate these issues and vote for them. He sounds more like a majority/minority leader than a president. On the international front, I don’t think America can handle another Republican president. Bush’s actions and his one complete hole of an executive order (i.e. the War in Iraq) have left al-Qaeda not weaker, but they’ve grown over sixfold (SIX HUNDRED PERCENT) in membership and resources, and, on top of that, few in the world want to help us because of failed Republican diplomacy. We’ve made terrorism more dangerous by causing the creation of small faction groups, mostly wizzed off Iraqis and other Arabs who cannot believe that we would brutally invade for little purpose one of their sovereign nations. It’s time to leave international work to the internationalists. It’s time return to Clinton’s strong intelligence and anti-terrorist incentives, all of which were abolished when Bush took office and replaced with one committee that met *once* before 9/11. McCain cannot do it, or he’ll lose his isolationist base. Obama must, if he wishes to keep the support of internationalists, and internationalism is a key ingredient to modern American liberalism.
Besides, the nature of the campaign so far has not given me much hope for McCain’s leadership skills. He claimed that his negative campaign was catalyzed by Obama’s rejection of his incredibly slanted town-hall debates. (when actually Obama agreed, with conditions that wouldn’t make them a conservafest full of lobbed softballs for McCain and “Why do you like murdering babies?”-style questions for him.) John nobly wanted to break away from his predecessors and run a Karl Roveless campaign, focusing on the issues. But something as trivial as THAT caused him to throw that kind of conviction and value out the window? When Gordon Brown wants a summit held in Scotland instead of Florida is McCain going to nuke the British Isles? Meanwhile, Obama has shown himself to be a promising Teflon candidate, meaning like Reagan, he’ll be able to focus on his work even when his underlings screw up (or even when he screws up).
Bottom line, McCain’s values are shaky, Obama’s values are shaky. However, Obama’s shaky values don’t get in the way of his ideas and the issues. We need change NOT ON THE DOMESTIC FRONT but we need DESPERATE change on the international front, and another Republican president cannot offer that, even if he were Ron Paul. Thank you.
Your information is flawed. Obama only has five years of Congressional experience and the media marketing machine is trying to put him in office.

Have any of you actually read the book or just perused someone else’s reviews? Just take a couple hours, it is remarkably easy to read and well edited. Even if you disagree, do the work yourself, it might be an academic thing but it probably hasn’t hurt anybody yet…unless you spit at integrity.

The facts HAVE been published, if one cared to look, instead of being sucked in by only the latest regurgitation of garbage. Obama is not the Messiah, never said he was. He admits he’s human, and flawed. I wish he and his campaign were above reproach in their representations; they’re not, but I think they’ve done a far better job of trying to raise the level of discourse, and were increasingly pulled toward the gutter by Clinton and McCain. If he doesn’t fight back, he’s a wimp; if he does, so much for “change.”

Having read much of the snopes.com information on Obama, I continue to be left with one question.
Since when does snopes consider the source of the controversy as a valid measure of proving or disproving the controversy?
Much of what snopes says is proven false is proven so simply by Obama saying it’s not true.
That’s like snopes saying OJ Simplson didn’t kill his ex, simply because he said he didn’t.
I’m not saying they’re not correect. I’m simply saying that if they can’t provide any better source of information than Obama himself, then the jury is still out on the accuracy of the claims.

You yourself really only said “It ain’t so” and that Media Matters said “It ain’t so”. How then can you stand on the intellectual and moral high ground and accuse Freddoso of being misleading?
Although off topic, I tend to agree with the sentiments expressed by T3flon. Our founding fathers had the wisdom to create a government with 3 branches to ensure a balance of power. Unfortunately, we don’t have that same balance of power in politics as it is driven by a two party system. It seems to be that both sides are constantly pointing out the faults of the other side and in the battle we loose site of the fact that both sides are faulty! Too often I think people are stuck voting for the lesser of two evils rather than voting for a candidate that they truly back. I am sure many politicians start off running for office having the greatest of intentions, but after being run through the machine, once they make it to the top levels of government, I am not sure if there are any that haven’t lost touch with issues and addressing the best interests of the common American. BTW – Supporting big business can be in favor of the common American, because big business is what provides many of us common Americans the jobs that we need to support the life styles we so enjoy.

I like how a lot of people think they are experts who post comments here. People are so willing to demonize to come up with conspiracy theories. Not everyone who supports Obama thinks he is the second coming of Christ, and frankly I wish he was. I’m so sick of the barely veiled racism (somtimes not so veiled) mostly by people who can’t spell. I think one person up there posted in a comment that someone else should “shut up and go drink their kool-aid” hmmm…true colors shining through? Also, another person ranted about how they wish an uncorrupt “blue-collar” you know, sensible person just like themselves would be elected president. Sorry, not me. I frankly would be absolutely terrified to have someone average in this important, incredibly difficult job. Its another example of blacks being damned if they do damned if they don’t. Obama (and his wife) worked hard and achieved success, being educated at the top schools in the country having got there by not being handed it on a silver platter…yet he is an “elitist”. I just sense incredible bitterness from the average person who thinks they could “do a better job myself”. No one is perfect, everyone has character flaws but if Obama had serious character flaws they would already be exposed..oh I forgot they are not being exposed because of the vast liberal conspiracy. I haven’t read the book, but I plan to pick it up tomorrow. I definitely feel that whether the writer is biased or not, he’s providing information that I am sure I can attempt to verify on my own. From the tons of reviews I’ve read tonight on various websites, it sounds like a very enlightening book for people on both sides of the election to read.
Just from reading here, I can’t believe the levels people stoop to just to argue about something they obviously know nothing about.
If you want to argue about something and claim you can provide evidence to support your stance…please provide unbiased evidence. Snopes.com is basically a BS website. Factcheck.org is biased as well.
