Harold Ford “Playboy Mansion” Ad Man Praises McCain’s Ad

In the Washington Post on McCain’s ridiculous “Celebrity” attack ad:

Scott Howell, a leading Republican media consultant, praised the commercial as ‘very fair and accurate’, adding: ‘Just because a car looks like a Ferrari doesn’t mean it will run like one. McCain has to get voters to look under the hood and if he can I think they’ll see they are being sold a ‘kit car’ with a VW engine.’

Who is Scott Howell?

This guy.

The ad, which was produced by Scott Howell, features a handful of fake “man on the street” interviews. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to watch the ad.)

One woman says: “Harold Ford looks nice, isn’t that enough?” Another says: “Terrorists need their privacy.” A man in camouflage clothing says: “Ford’s right. I do have too many guns.”

And then there is a young, scantily clad white woman who says in a high-pitched voice: “I met Harold at the Playboy party.” She appears again at the end of the ad, whispering: “Harold, call me.”

Howell was also behind the ad attacking Max Cleland that compared him to Osama Bin Laden. And he likes John McCain’s ads. Nice company you’ve got there, Sen. McCain.

Do you really want to go there? You want to criticize McCain for a supposed association with a man because he liked an ad and expect to avoid Obama’s REAL associations? Talk about desperate!

  2. Josh Marshall at TPM is all over this angle, too. Good stuff.

  3. JWG says:

    all over this angle, too

Well, then…it’s official. Someone who expresses a like for something in a campaign is now an associate of the politician.

I guess Dale Leo Bishop, whose last words were an appeal to vote for Obama, is fair game according to leftist rules. Nice company you’ve got there, Senator Obama!

    Total bullshit.

  5. ed says:

Right, ’cause the carefully crafted campaign ads from the party of Lee “You start out in 1954 by saying, ‘Nigger, nigger, nigger.’ By 1968 you can’t say ‘nigger’ – that hurts you…” Atwater would never ever ever think of stooping so low.

  6. ed says:

    Total bullshit.

Yeah, I thought so too. Cleland, being a liberal from the DemocRAT party, was more like Stalin and Hitler than Osama bin Laden (although he was a bit like the latter too).

  7. Mike says:

Jay, as usual you are wrong. Howell morphed Cleland’s face into Bin Laden’s. It was vicious, evil, and effective.

  8. Jay says:

Mike, here is a link to the ad in question. Funny, but I don’t see this ‘morphing’ you’re talking about. Oh that’s right. Because you have no clue what you’re talking about.

  9. Mike says:

Oh, wait, Jay: you think that’s the only ad in question. You’re a liar, and always have been. But then, you’re a Republican, so you have no conscience, no decency, and probably no soul. Given your apologetics for scum like O’Reilly, Hannity, and the rest of the perverts on the Fox Porn Channel, you’ll likely wind up in hell with them.

That’s the ad in question that got everybody into an uproar Mike.

    You’re a liar

Oh I’m the liar? You’re saying that Howell created an ad where Max Cleland’s faced morphed into Osama bin Laden’s. Where is it? It wasn’t long ago. It took me about 5 seconds to find the Youtube clip with the actual ad that Oliver is talking about.

But then, you’re a Republican, so you have no conscience, no decency, and probably no soul.

    Blah blah blah blah.

Given your apologetics for scum like O’Reilly, Hannity, and the rest of the perverts on the Fox Porn Channel, you’ll likely wind up in hell with them.</i?

    Blah blah blah blah.

Let’s see this phantom ad you’re talking about Mike or STFU.

What if these ads just talked about, I don’t know… government. Stuff like that. I know that’s just crazy talk.
