The behavior revealed in this situation is only exceptional because it is so blatant, but I put that down to two things.

First, the stupidity of the Bush/Cheney class of political hacks. From the DoJ to FEMA to every single department involved in the invasion/occupation of Iraq, the constants are people who are utterly unqualified and stunningly clueless. I don’t get it. Maybe the people who have qualifications and brains all went to work on the donee side of this singularly corrupt administration.

Second, there has never been any accountability for the Bush/Cheney administration. Not even when their hacks stole the election. By the time Goodling went to work, the idea that any of them might ever be held accountable for their conduct didn’t enter their minds.

Obama, like Pelosi and Reid before him, has sworn off doing anything to hold anyone in the Bush&Co administration accountable. It will be years before the American people even find out what exactly happened in the last eight years.
