This is nonsense, more of the same kind of thinking that gave us diplomatic black holes in Iraq and Iran. There is nothing to be gained by some sort of boycott of the games and a cover-our-eyes attitude towards the PRC unless it bends to our will. They don’t actually need us at the games; as much as they sell to us they don’t even really need us as an economic partner. They can sell their goods to anybody, and they have no compunctions about where and from who they buy and sell.

Constructive engagement has done nothing for the nutjobs that run Myanmar, but it has done wonders for the PRC. The three generations of leadership since Mao (and the normalization of relations with the US) have improved incredibly, both in maturity of administration and human rights. Taking part in the Olympics held there (or buying ad time during them) is in no way an approval of the Chinese Tibet policy, and will probably only bring their governance further along.
