No, but banks do. It would be easy to get loans at short notice if he is ahead in the polls late in the game.

Face it, there is no way to legitimately spin this as a negative.

Obama is in front in the poll, and in front in the money. McCain has a hard cap that he can spend, Obama will be able to outspend him, perhaps 2-1 from the convention to election day.

Campaigns of all stripes (winners and losers, Republicans and Democratics) pay down debts post-election all the time. But 99% of them are salaries for the office staffers, rent on the campaign headquarters, travel reimbursement expenses, etc. I don’t recall any advertising outlets accepting IOUs for airtime. If there’s precedent, please feel free to correct.

Actually Zython, it’d be considered an in-kind donation and (normally) quite illegal. It’s why you won’t see re-runs of “Wedding Crashers” and the Season IV(?) premiere of “24″ on cable from the conventions until November 8th.

Barack’s status as an opter-outer MAY negate the more felonious aspects of it, but is he willing to risk it?

And McCain will be in trouble if he can’t keep up his campaign donations. In fact, McCain is already in trouble now and will be in more trouble if the status quo remains the same.

My point still stands, Obama is crushing McCain in the money race, and your best attack is, ‘If Obama gets into trouble raising money, he will be in trouble.’

It’s pathetic.

There is no way anyone can look at these numbers and think Obama is in trouble so stop trying. It just makes you look like an idiot and reduces the likelihood that people will take you seriously.

This is a huge down-ticket election though. While I disagree that Obama is somehow hurting Senate and House Dems by taking in so much cash, even if there was something plausible to this theory, he’d still be helping out those folks by getting people out to the voting booths in the first place. And if they’re there to vota Barack, you can bet they’ll be voting Dem all the way down.

Obama v. McCain is going to be tighter than I’d like. But the Dems should clean up the joint when it comes to Congressional races. And watching McCain have to defend supposedly “safe” states as Obama buys TV ads in places like Montana and throughout the south? Yeah, good times.

Average donation was 68 bucks. That means he needs about 2-3 million donors, not 4 million. And he doesn’t even need to do spectacular fundraising in October, because all the vendors will just say “hey, we know you’re good for it”.

Considering 20 million was raised for the DNC as well, and considering the huge funding advantage the DSCC and DCCC have over their Republican counterparts, I’d say it’s the GOP who should be worried, not the Democratic party.

Parthenon, I’m sure that quite a number of the $20 folk are not-your-usual campaign funders. However, in order to make up the $82 million shortfall by not receiving matching funds, Barack will need aproximately 4.1 million of those donors to step up, IN ADDITION to the ones that already donate on a regular basis. And I’m just not sold yet that there’s THAT many potential marks out there, especially after the protracted primary fight.

If he pulls it off, bully for Barack. And while this $52 is a step in the right direction, it ain’t the entire ballgame.
