“Radical”

On Hannity & Colmes, Sean Hannity called rapper Ludacris “radical”. Is “radical” now the catch-all for anyone who is black? Because while some of Ludacris’ lyrics may be salty, I don’t think they could be called “radical”.

Now on this same panel was deposed GOP senator Rick Santorum who compared homosexuality to bestiality. Where I’m from, that’s radical.

Water On Mars Redux

sol61xx, originally uploaded by marco sv.

It’s time for us to break the bonds of earth again.

The Phoenix spacecraft has tasted Martian water for the first time, scientists reported Thursday.

By melting icy soil in one of its lab instruments, the robot confirmed the presence of frozen water lurking below the Martian permafrost. Until now, evidence of ice in Mars’ north pole region has been largely circumstantial.

Republicans: Run Against Republicans

Link

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told GOP congressional hopefuls on Thursday that they should not be afraid to criticize both political parties – including Republican members of the House.

During a conference call, the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman instructed candidates, campaign managers and press secretaries that given the anti-incumbent environment, it could be beneficial for House GOP candidates to distance themselves from politicians they may be serving with next year.

If Democrats are running versus Republicans, and Republicans are too…

Racial Overtones In The Celeb Ad?

I have to confess, I don’t think the overtones in the Paris Hilton/Britney Spears ad from McCain was about race. I think some on my side of the aisle are reading too much into this - the McCain people just aren’t smart enough to be that subtle.

The reaction from Democrats brings to mind an abused wife who now thinks of many/most men as abusive, without any evidence saying that. Dems have rolled over so much for aggressive Dems that the left is very sensitive to it. Then again, I’m okay with a more aggressive reaction to the very passive way Dems handled these things in the past.

And no, not the Hitler thing either.

Obama Vs. McCain, “Celeb” Edition

Link

Speaking at an economic town hall in Iowa, the Senator taunts McCain over his ad featuring shots of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

“I do have to ask my opponent– is that the best you can come up with? Is that really what this election’s about? Is that what is worthy of the American people?”

OliverWillis.com obtained exclusive video footage of the campaign and what Sen. McCain is in for:

Jerome Corsi’s “Obama Nation”: Like Clockwork, Swift Boating Begins

First reported allegation in Corsi’s Obama attack book is false

Jerome Corsi was the writer behind the Swift Boat attack on John Kerry, and is also the author of a book fearmongering about Iran getting nukes and another about the fictitious North American Union.

Howard Wolfson On The O’Reilly Factor

So, yet another “Democrat” on Fox News who thinks its his job to kneecap Democrats. Is there anyone on Fox who is allowed to deviate from the con line?

Then again, Wolfson’s got a track record.

So, Maybe Our Solar System Is Filled With Water

We are not alone.

NASA scientists said Wednesday they had found liquid on Saturn’s moon Titan, only the second body in the solar system after Earth to have fluid on its surface.

The groundbreaking discovery was made after analysis of instruments on the US-European Cassini probe, the spacecraft that has been orbiting Saturn since 2004 following a 3.5 billion-kilometer (2.2 billion miles) voyage.

McCain’s Same OLD Politics

Nice response to John McCain’s latest round of desperate ads.

Harold Ford “Playboy Mansion” Ad Man Praises McCain’s Ad

In the Washington Post on McCain’s ridiculous “Celebrity” attack ad:

Scott Howell, a leading Republican media consultant, praised the commercial as ‘very fair and accurate’, adding: ‘Just because a car looks like a Ferrari doesn’t mean it will run like one. McCain has to get voters to look under the hood and if he can I think they’ll see they are being sold a ‘kit car’ with a VW engine.’

Who is Scott Howell?

This guy.

The ad, which was produced by Scott Howell, features a handful of fake “man on the street” interviews. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to watch the ad.)

One woman says: “Harold Ford looks nice, isn’t that enough?” Another says: “Terrorists need their privacy.” A man in camouflage clothing says: “Ford’s right. I do have too many guns.”

And then there is a young, scantily clad white woman who says in a high-pitched voice: “I met Harold at the Playboy party.” She appears again at the end of the ad, whispering: “Harold, call me.”

Howell was also behind the ad attacking Max Cleland that compared him to Osama Bin Laden. And he likes John McCain’s ads. Nice company you’ve got there, Sen. McCain.

McCain’s Britney Moment

As John McCain grows increasingly desperate and morphs into the Mean McCain his close associates and wives know, he has attacked Sen. Obama as a celebrity and used Paris Hilton and Britney Spears in his latest ad designed for the media to run over and over again for him. The problem here is it is John McCain who hobnobbed with Britney Spears and Co. at the MTV awards. It is his daughter who pals around with reality TV stars. And it he’s the one who does all this while walking around in $500+ dollar loafers.

Journalism In The Modern Age

A stack of newspapers, originally uploaded by DRB62.

Dana Millbank fakes a quote from Obama, press and GOP run with it. That dastardly “liberal media”.

Check out how MSNBC handles it:

Per a Democratic source, “[The Post] left out the important first half of the sentence, which was along the lines of: ‘It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have just become a symbol…” Regardless of the context now, this narrative has been ready to explode at some point and even a misreported quote was enough to spark this arrogance watch.

(emphasis mine)

That’s right. MSNBC is saying that it doesn’t matter that the quote was manipulated and wrong, it fits an existing press/GOP narrative, so we’re running with it. WTF?

Republicans Block Aid To Paralyzed Vets

Remember, they support the troops!

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Act, named for the actor who was made famous by his portrayal of superman and later became a champion of the disabled, along with his late wife (pictured at right), is part of a broad package created by Democrats which lumps together 36 bills.

It would have allocated $25 million for research on spinal cord injuries, rehabilitation and measures to improve the quality of life for paralyzed Americans. The effort is backed by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, which claims 19,000 members. Some 200,000 Americans suffer spinal cord-related injuries.

Bruce McQuain’s Latest Distortion On Obama: Reparations Edition

McQuain at Q and O:

Obama endorses reparations

I pointed out, yesterday, the latest in redistributionist schemes being cooked up ala “global warming”. Dale notes that the belief in a Democratic win seems to be bringing these sorts of ideas and potential claims to the fore as they line up for their hopeful piece of the pie.

What did Sen. Obama actually say?

In answering that question and a follow-up on whether he thought reparations were in order for Native Americans and African Americans, Obama gave a nuanced answer.

“The most important thing for the American government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds,” Obama said.

He explained that Native Americans were doing worse than any other group by every measure, including high unemployment rates and living in “deplorable” housing conditions.

“I’m more concerned about delivering a better life,” Obama said.

He said as far as reparations were concerned that he was more interested in strategies to lift people up from the legacy of discrimination. Such strategies would include improving inner city schools, so students received a quality education.

Obama also said that programs for health care and education for everyone in America would be among the best way to help disadvantaged individuals because such programs will disproportionally affect and benefit minorities because they are suffering most.

Oh, so, he doesn’t support reparations.

ALSO: Instapundit just makes up that Obama said America’s history was unusually tragic. He never said that. Of course, it’s sort of intriguing that a white upper class male from the south doesn’t think there’s anything tragic in our history of note. Heh, indeed.
