“I Am Aware Of All Internet Traditions”

The web meme du jour takes on a John McCain shading based on these words from an aide:

“John McCain is aware of the Internet,” says Soohoo. “This is a man who has a very long history of understanding on a range of issues.”

Wasn’t it the Reagan Library debate when all the candidates were asked “Mac or PC?” and McCain said neither, I have Cindy do all that new-fangled technology stuff?

  2. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Way to look hip and young.

  3. Repack Rider says:

“And what ‘traditions’ would those be, sir?”

“As I understand them, they are ‘point’ and ‘click.’”

    Found it.

    Yahoo news.

    McCain says he’s illiterate.

  5. Duros62 says:

    Oh wait, I see now.

“John McCain is aware of the Internet,”

So at least he knows it exists. Okay, well, that’s a start. Doesn’t know anything about it, but he is aware of it.

  6. Duros62 says:

“Is it proper to say I don’t do raised hand questions?” Soohoo responds.

    Friggin’ elitist.

  7. Azhrie says:

Actually, the meme doesn’t have anything to do with McCain. See documentation of the incident here: http://www.balloon-juice.com/?p=10643.

  8. Duros62 says:

Yes, Ollie, I was going to suggest a little back story. Not every one witnessed that meme being born.

  9. SpiderJ says:

I don’t think OW was saying that the meme originated from McCain, just that this admission from McCain’s camp seems strangely serendipitous when you consider the birth of this meme.

  10. Scratch says:

Well, let’s look at the flip side. I’ll wager you two bits that Obama has no idea how to use an abacus.

  11. I believe its quite pointless to discuss the candidates knowledge of new technologies. In the end all of them, like most politicians, don’t know enough about stuff like the internet for example to fully understand it.

I don’t know what its like in the US but I can remember a news show here in germany asking politicians about a ‘browser’, sadly most of them didn’t know what it is. And most of the others just knew ‘its some internet thingy’.

The next generation of politicians might be more versed in these things.

    Ha! Point, Scratchy.
