Cookie Monster Defends His Honor Vs. Colbert

I love Cookie Monster. And this is a great clip of Cookie Monster defending the idea that cookies are now a sometime treat versus Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report.

Does Colbert really have a Peabody? If he does, that must really gall O’Reilly. If he doesn’t, that must really, really gall O’Reilly.

  6. Colbert has two Peabody’s I believe, one with THE DAILY SHOW, and his most recent one for THE COLBERT REPORT.

    Hehe

Elmo can wait in car, it very fuel efficent. It run on “imaginaaatiooon”

  27. April says:

This is very funny but why do we have to ruin the cookie monster just because parents can’t feed their children properly and they are getting fat. If people had kids and were responsible parents then the poor cookie monster wouldn’t have to be turned into a vegetable and fruit eating thing promoting healthy living, isn’t that the parents job in the first place? I’m so glad I grew up when I grew up.

  28. Glenda says:

    Everybody sing along:

    C is for cookie,
    That’s good enough for me,
    C is for cookie,
    A fun and tasty treat,
    C is for cookie,
    That’s good enough for me,
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!

  33. überRegenbogen says:

Funny. But i maintain that the current guard have missed the point of characters like Cookie. They were MEANT to be obnoxious and extreme, to demonstrate what those qualities are like to other people. The other characters are frustrated with their behaviour. THAT was the lesson.

I got it when i was little. Are kids really that much more dense these days? Or are the current producers just assuming that they are?

Instead of updating the show by making the old characters politically correct, maybe what they should be doing is introducing new characters that portray the new vices that children face. For example: a character who is glued to video games to the point of dysfunction—just as Cookie was addicted to cookies, and Oscar was addicted to junk. Or a character who’s nose or ear is always buried in a mobile phone—committing all of the typical rudenesses, like shouting into it, and dismissing people around them. Or one who never leaves the computer.

It seems like the show has lost its way in some respects.

    [insert record scratch here]

I enJOYed (echo, echo, echo) this bit when it originally aired. As I watched it here again I found it to be equally charming, funny and even poignant.

These of course are among the intended/desired responses, deLIGHTful (echo, echo, echo) on a purely visceral level as well as a cerebral one.

    I maintain THAT.

    LOL

  39. cookie mama says:

Best Cookie Monster moment: Cookie singing “You Made Me Love You” to a cookie. I never laughed so hard in my life.

By the way, Cookie Monster didn’t just eat cookies in the days before they dumbed down Sesame Street. He often ate the plate the cookies were on, parts of the set, huge alphabet letters and numbers and just about anything else he could get his hands on once a feeding frenzy had started. Any kid dumb enough to copy his eating habits would have had a well deserved stomach ache.

  40. Liz says:
