McCain’s America?

6:36 pm EST June 12th, 2008 | News | 23 Comments

Right now John McCain is doing a “town hall” meeting being broadcast by Fox News (The Official Network of McCain ’08, Home Of The Terrorist Fist Bump) and it’s a mighty amazing trick the McCain camp is pulling. Somehow they’ve gone to the most diverse city in America (New York City) and are seemingly unable to find minorities willing to attend.

UPDATE: McCain’s campaign apparently lied to Fox and said the audience was open to all, but in fact it was packed with people handpicked by McCain‘s people and the GOP. Shades of Bush, yet again.

Gov. Dean on the fakery: “Once again John McCain’s campaign is trying to mislead the American people. Senator McCain should understand that after seven years of a President who has divided Americans and pursued a scorched earth policy full of misleading propaganda campaigns, we need a leader who understands he is the President for all Americans not just his supporters. If Senator McCain likes to brag so much about running a transparent campaign, why is he copying the Bush campaign model by stacking this event with his prescreened supporters? If that is John McCain’s idea of straight talk, the American people are in for a long and disappointing campaign season.”

That’s not change we can believe in, my friends.

  1. TroyJMorris says:

Yeah, but it IS in HD.

  2. It seems as if the Republicans are getting their knickers in a knot over Michelle Obama. And getting ready to take aim at her over the next few months. But maybe they should take a look in the mirror and ask themselves what are they so “proud” of? Maybe they should revisit what Michelle Obama has seen from her American leaders since she was born the year after President Kennedy got killed. And then, no matter what they come up with and manage to spin, I’ll still take a straight shooter who doesn’t mince words – the Michelle way. That’s American. That’s the American way. And the choice of spouses also tells me loads of the candidates themselves. And not the way you think. http://angryafrican.net/2008/06/12/michelle-not-a-stepford-wife/

Just saw this over at AmericaBlog:
    http://www.americablog.com/2008/06/fox-news-mccain-lied-to-us.html

Fox reported that McCain’s camp told them this would be a mixed audience of repukes, Democrats, and independents, but that the campaign issued a “clarification” that tickets were given to supporters and “independent groups.”

Anyway, judging by the pictures, it was a rousing time in the Big Apple with J. Sidney. It looks more like he was speaking at a convention of chronic constipation sufferers.

  4. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Isn’t this a violation of FEC rules? This is an hour of campaign time for McCain ‘donated’ by Fox News.

  5. ed says:

Dude, that’s FOX News making that correction. That’s some stinky shit right there, that is.

  6. More maverick-y straight talk by Saint McCain!!!

  7. Not Fooling Ohio says:

Looks like McCain’s done another “About Face” on his Double-Talk Express. This guy is becoming worse than Bush regarding lies to the public. FAUX News was obviously complicit in this. It will become obvious to more and more Americans this year that McCain does not possess the soul and character of a leader as he continues to play these games and his phony exterior is peeled away. He has nothing positive to offer us.

  8. Vic says:

A room full of people in New York City and all of them are white. He must be appealing to the Sex and the City demographic.

  9. Repack Rider says:

I’m not sure that the demographic images (white, old, straight) that accompany a J. Sydney appearance do him any good. It just emphasizes the narrowness of his support.

  10. SaveFarris says:

snabby and Repack, are you saying it’s once again okay to refer to a candidate by their middle names again? When did that happen?

  11. anotherbozo says:

Many pundits are itching for Obama to take on McCain in his Town Hall invitation so these “conversations” become REAL. The contrast, they say, would be embarrassing for ol’ John.

I’ll be awaiting whatever determination the Obama camp makes in that direction, sure their judgment will outweigh my desire to see McCain’s lies and fantasies demolished in a face-to-face. Obama would almost do him too much honor, appearing in the same room with that walking Ineptitude.

  12. Repack Rider says:

    Farris,

Is there some subliminal message in the word “Sydney” that suggests that McCain is a terrorist? I’m not up on all the dog-whistle stuff.

  13. anotherbozo:
I don’t get why McCain is so eager to get into “Town Hall” type debates with Obama. What does McCain hope to gain by it?

  14. SaveFarris says:

CJ13, it’s because Obama has proven that his Golden Throat turns to Pyrite when he goes off teleprompter. McCain figures the more Obama talks off the cuff, the greater chance he’ll turn in a “I voted for it before I voted against it” performance that will permanently identify Obama as an empty suit. And your typical debate hosted by Forest Sawyer or Jim Lehrer doesn’t exactly lend itself to the unpredictability that “real” people asking “real” questions does.

The last time Obama was in a “town-hall type” debate was the YouTube fiasco where he agreed to meet with Ahmedenijad, Kim Jong-Il and Chavez “without precondition.” McCain is simply hoping for more of the same.

  15. SpiderJ says:

Farris, it’s true Obama’s better with remarks prepped than he is off-the-cuff (then again, most people are). But I don’t see how this helps McCain, since he’s just as bad off-the-cuff as well. Unless, that is, he really did mean that he wished to veto all beer.

Sounds like a strategy that at best will produce a tie, not an advantage, and it re-introduces us to the images of young, vital, physically fit gentleman up against cranky old man with a history of health problems.

  16. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“snabby and Repack, are you saying it’s once again okay to refer to a candidate by their middle names again? When did that happen?”

It’s called intent and context. But you know that.

“Sounds like a strategy that at best will produce a tie…”

McCain is hoping to stack the deck, like he did on Fox News.

  17. SaveFarris says:

“context”, of course, meaning “if they’re a Republican”…

  18. SpiderJ says:

An empty contention, since there’s nobody on the Republican side with a middle name that flashpoints like Hussein in the first place.

But if it makes you feel better, I’ll be happy to refer to Governor Jindal as “Bobby,” which he prefers, and not “Piyush.”

  19. Repack Rider says:

    Farris, please help us.

What do you find offensive about McCain’s middle name?

We understand that any emphasis on Obama’s middle name, HUSSEIN, is to try to draw a parallel between him and Saddam, but I don’t know about any terrorists or murderous dictators named Sydney.

Could you fill us in on this mysterious “Sydney” who is so evil that the mere mention of the name he shares with McCain is an attempt to brand McCain as a terrorist?

  20. SpiderJ says:

Well, Sydney is the capital of Australia…

…and Australia, has we know, is populated entirely by criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them…

…so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.

(Also, for the record, I think it’s “Sidney” with an I not a Y.)

  21. Sean D. Martin says:

And “Sidney” is kind of like Snidely, spelled sideways.

  22. PD100 says:

Didn’t Bryant Gumbel get into some trouble pointing out exactly this kind of diversity some time ago?

  23. Duros62 says:

it’s because Obama has proven that his Golden Throat turns to Pyrite when he goes off teleprompter.

    You fucking wish.
