No Evangelical Left Behind

Obama is not writing off any voters.

The Brody File has learned that in the next two weeks Barack Obama’s campaign will unveil a major new program to attract younger Evangelicals and Catholics to their campaign.

It’s called the “Joshua Generation Project.” The name is based on the biblical story of how Joshua’s generation led the Israelites into the Promised Land.

A source close to the Obama campaign tells The Brody File the following:

“The Joshua Generation project will be the Obama campaign’s outreach to young people of faith. There’s unprecedented energy and excitement for Obama among young evangelicals and Catholics. The Joshua Generation project will tap into that excitement and provide young people of faith opportunities to stand up for their values and move the campaign forward.”

Guess no one in the Obama campaign has actually read the Bible, because Joshua was actually much older than the “generation” that passed into the Promised Land. Moses and Joshua weren’t all that different age-wise. Everyone else in the tribe (save Caleb) ends up dying during the 40 years of wandering. Quite a story to base a political campaign on.

I don’t exactly know how well a mass genocide of everyone over 40 will play with the voters, though it would solve the Social Security and Medicare problems…

SaveFarris — They picked the name to undercut an ongoing rightwing evangelical political effort. Generation Joshua is an evangelical youthgroup sponsored by the Homeschool Legal Defense Fund that is essentially trying to train a generation of evangelical children to operate effectively in the secular world, (especially in the fields of law and politics,) while covertly maintaining extremist views. The label “Generation Joshua” has been picked up by other rightwing evangelicals to describe the generation of Manchurian candidates they believe are going to lead them to the promised land.

The fact that the Obama campaign chose this name shows how much thought they’ve put into their strategy of peeling off evangelical moderates.

You’re gonna nitpick facts from the bible? Really?

Moses and Joshua weren’t all that different age-wise.

Yes, they were both 150 years old. But Moses was 9 feet tall.

Duros, you’re probably not going to appeal the to Bible-Thumpers if you’re getting the facts wrong. How many votes do you think a politician would pick up by speaking at a VA Hall about how the Battle of Bastogne was a turning point in the Korean War?

In my experience (which admittedly isn’t “extensive” but certainly not by any means inconsiderable) a majority of those who are passionate enough about the Bible to be called “Thumpers” have no interest in facts be they right, wrong or otherwise. They find a passage in the Bible will provide support for whichever views they want and ignore any that don’t.

Hey, I’ve read versions of Exodus where those claims are made.

Um, I don’t think thats what they mean.
