We’re Going To Denver!

Denver Broncos Cheerleader
Denver Broncos Cheerleaders are in Denver. Hmmm.

And by we, I mean me. OliverWillis.com is one of the blogs officially credentialed to cover the Democratic convention in Denver. I’ve never been to a convention (a political convention, that is, I’ve *ahem* been to a comic book convention or 10) so this should be pretty cool.

I’m thinking one of my main goals/projects should be to finally see Al Gore in person.

woo hoo! that’s great Oliver! And thanks, DNC for inviting OW.

    Kick ass and take names….

  2. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Congrats, OW. Do us proud.

  3. jerry says:

Enjoy Denver. See if you can find Mindy. Make friends with Jeralyn.

  4. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    … That’s a lame excuse to show a cheerleader.

What am I saying, there’s no such thing as a lame excuse for showing a cheerleader.

  5. Robster says:

Congrats. Just be careful when you run into Taylor Marsh. I see she’s also on the list.

  6. bryan says:

Isn’t Colorado the state with the biggest Evangelist (Haggard style) population in the USA. Watch out for them!

  7. Taylor Marsh? Seriously?

Wow, and I thought Jeff Gannon was the only pretend journalist a political party gave press credentials to. Are they aware they just gave credentials to the convention to a person who openly said she’s advocating against the Democratic nominee for President?

  8. Ann Brock says:

Congratulation! are you the only black blogger?

  9. Lib4 says:

Congrats OW thats great news….looking forward to you reports back to us

  10. anotherbozo says:

Great news! This is gonna be fun. I figured out that OW’s skills as a writer are the best kind–he’s trenchant, vivid, says what he wants and then stops (other bloggers take note). Must be why I keep coming back here, avoiding kos, talking points memo, most of HuffPo, etc.

    Looking forward to it -

  11. SaveFarris says:

If you get a chance, make sure you get to visit Red Rocks. Spectacular!!

  12. Congratulation! are you the only black blogger?

They gave credentials to Pam’s House Blend so I imagine not.

I think it’s weird that Pam Spaulding got credentialed, though, but Amanda Marcotte didn’t, what with her actually having been a campaign blogger albiet for a short period. (I honestly don’t know; for all I know Amanda didn’t apply)

  13. alice says:

Congrats! It’s nice to see you getting this kind of national recognition!

  14. Vanessa says:

    I’m volunteering. I’ll see you there! :)

  15. Philip Pangrac says:

    Will there be cosplay?

  16. Duros62 says:

    I heard she’s got a potty mouth.:-)

  17. I'm a Hick says:

Maybe you’ll hear a speech like the one given 60 years ago:

  18. liberalrob says:

Just as a wild guess, Pam represents several desirable minorities (black women, LGBT, and feminists) while Amanda only represents one (feminists). Also Pam is known to be a major contributor to Pandagon, so she sort of will represent Pandagon by proxy.

Personally I wish both Amanda and Melissa McEwan had been credentialed. It would be a nice finger in the eye of Bill Donohue (who Kathy Griffin skewered nicely in her “Straight to Hell” show).

Oliver, I’m sure you will have a great time. Go to as many breakout sessions as you can. I fondly remember when I went to the Texas State Dem Convention in 2004; the national convention must be just as much fun, or even more. It will certainly be a life experience you will remember.

    “Will there be cosplay?”

Thanks ever so much, Philip, for putting the image of Hillary Clinton in a “Sailor Moon” outfit into my brain.

    You son of a bitch.

    Way to go Oliver,
I worked the NYC 1980 Democratic National Convention. I was freelancing for Swiss TV and was on the floor for Ted Kennedy address, but I got into a fight with a Secret Service Officer and missed it all. My very large tripod was about to smack a delegate upside her head as I tried to move out of the way and I tap a SS-Guy, he tried to push me off the floor. I would not be moved but I lost my crew in the sea of faces. So, for a hour I tried to join my crew. When I got home the night my hubby asked me what was it like on the floor, I don’t know what he was talking about. So, I was inches away form one of the most important events in political history and missed it. My advise, try not to get so caught up in work that you miss what right in front of you. Check the schedule early and get floor clearance for Gore’s session the fringe press general get a hour floor pass. If you can get in early two or three day before the convention starts everything is free. The Networks sponsor (1980 was ABC) supplies everything from food to free haircuts. Once the conventions starts your on your own. I wish I could tag along. And Don’t forget you press tags. Sam Donaldson in full makeup forgot his and he could not get in. Enjoy.

  21. Greetings everyone!

Nod to the blog host, Oliver!

I noticed a comment about Amanda and thought I would share what I know from reading various blogs.

This is speculation on my part.

In April, the huge scandal concerning the literary work of a blogger called BrownFemiPower erupted. Apparently, either the ideas or writings of BrownFemiPower appeared in a publication with Amanda as the author. BrownFemiPower got wind of it and gathered the proof!!

I don’t know how the situation was resolved however. I just know that in April …the time that the DNC applications were being submitted by bloggers…was when all of the blow up occurred.

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
    Lisa

  22. Greetings!

To answer Ann’s question… the eight black blog hosts that I know about are:

    African-American Political Pundit
    Jack and Jill Politics
    Dallas South
    Oliver Willis
    Pam’s House Blend
    Zennie’s Zeitgist
    What About Our Daughters
Pop Politics (has a black blog host but uses many authors of all races)

    A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Thanks ever so much, Philip, for putting the image of Hillary Clinton in a “Sailor Moon” outfit into my brain.

    You son of a bitch.

Al Gore might show up as Tuxedo Mask! :-)

  25. Watch out for anyone wearing a Ray-gun mask. Or George Bush masks for that matter!!

  26. Brendan says:

I just saw the official list before getting down to your blog in my feed reader. Congratulations! A well-deserved honor.

  27. somejackass says:

Punch Taylor Marsh for me, wouldja?

  28. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    “Will there be cosplay?”

I was going to dare him to streak during Clinton’s speech.

  29. Congrats, Oliver!

I’ve been to the 2007 and 2008 California conventions, which both had thousands of delegates and most of the top Dems speaking. It was great fun and quite fascinating.

I’ll be looking forward to your usual smart analysis.
