The Pushback Vs. Olbermann

Keith Olbermann is continuing to make waves, and the conservative movement and the media establishment doesn’t like that. In 2008 the media landscape is not the Fox News-dominated echo chamber of 2004 – and I say this as someone who sees this coverage as part of my day job and am well aware of how things have changed. Smears versus Democrats – specifically Sen. Obama are not greeted with the same reverence they once were. Those of us on the left have some place in the mainstream press to go to at least see a contrary position expressed. That bugs a lot of people. Aaron Barnhart discusses the issue further here.

What you call “pushback,” I call “calling a frothing, spittle-flecked, hysterical ninny a frothing, spittle-flecked, hysterical ninny.”

Sometimes the old saying is true: if you’re getting flak, you’re over the target. Other times, it’s just someone pulling an Atticus Finch.

Jay Tea is pointing out how pleased he is that Olbermann is more popular than him and earns more than he would see in ten lifetimes.

It’s OK JT, just turn on some Hannity or O’Reilly or Rush or one of the many many other poor benighted wingnuts who just can’t get a word in edgewise in our liberal-dominated media and veg out. You’ll be in a happier place.

  3. Jay Tea:
When are we going to see you picketing Dunkin’ Donuts with Michelle Malkin?

  4. Rheinhard says:

Speaking of the pushback against Olbermann, I just watched the latest NewsHounds clip showing Bill O’Reilly losing his shit over the fact that NBC is even permitted to exist. Check it out, this man truly needs serious medication, and soon.

Remind me why I’m such a bad guy for insulting people and why you should be treated with such respect?

Not true; I’ve never been jealous of someone else’s financial success. If Mr. Olbermann has managed to persuade his bosses that he is worth so much to them, then more power to him. I have never felt that my economic well-being is tied to anyone else’s to the point where their successes come at my expense. I’ll leave that position to those who howl and rail about how some people are “making too much money” and try to use the power of the government to punish them in the interest of “fairness” and “income redistribution” and other such things.

I do, however, resent that Mr. Olbermann is apparently following in the footsteps of Al Franken and Al Capone and not bothering to pay their “fair share” of taxes. Apparently there’s a tax warrant out for Mr. Olbermann’s “Olbermann Broadcasting Empire, Inc.” in New York. Shouldn’t you folks be mad at him for not paying his “fair share” of the tax burden on his very high income? Or are you trying to figure out a way to justify taxing ExxonMobil even more — after all, they only paid $100 BILLION in taxes in 2007 alone.

Hannity and O’Reilly? Don’t care much for either of them, myself. Or Limbaugh, for that matter, and can’t stand Savage. I do appreciate Brit Hume, and have since his days at the White House for ABC. And as far as Michelle Malkin and the Rachael Ray thing… well, everyone can get a little silly on occasion. I’d advise her to stick with the more obvious Insane Terrorist Fashion Statement and go after the morons with the Che t=shirts and the like.

Oh, and my apologies, Stroke; I was not talking about you, but Olbermann. I can understand the confusion, though; I’ll be more careful in the future. Maybe I should make sure to use the term “foul-mouthed” when talking about you so it’ll be more apparent.

I knew they were something right.

I enjoy Olbermann, but his last two special comments against Bush and Clinton went overboard. Not in their content, but in their delivery. He hammed it up so much, it seemed like I was watching a bad movie.

  9. SaveFarris says:

The one silver lining in the dark (no pun intended) cloud of an Obama Administration: Olbermann will fade into “Bolivian” as his raison-d’etre ceases to exist.

For those who doubt that, count for yourself the amount of time Olbermann spent attacking Congress as an entity pre-2006 and post-2006. Without those “evil” Republicans, there simply is no show.

From your lips to God’s ears.

I guess they could stretch Oddball out for 40 minutes.

But really Farris, there will always be “evil” Republicans.

Wow, leave it to you to try and use one of the most upstanding and noble figures in American literature to make a negative comparison.

  13. SaveFarris says:

Yes and if (as stipulated) none of them will actually be in power, what’s the point? “Senator Domenichi, I know you don’t have the power to appoint anyone, chair a committee, deploy troops, set policy or bring legislation to the floor but g**dammit Stop Ruining America!!!!!”

The only alternative left is to replay the previous evenings O’Reilly show overdubbing it with fart noises and sarcastic comments MST3K-style. That’ll get old after about 3 days.

  14. Rheinhard says:

Actually he could just use the O’Reilly playbook and dedicate most of the show to:

    (a) finding video or newspaper clips which he can use to attack random innocent people around the country, like high school teachers, small court judges, doctors etc, and send his roving teams to harass them while getting out of their cars,

    (b) analysing the latest blather from O’Reilly et al. with a “body language expert” (and judging by the link I posted above with BillO losing it with guests who mostly agree with him that should make for plenty of entertainment)

    (c) finding washed-up comedians to take up part of the show every week to relate their views on news of the day.

  15. PD100 says:

“I call “calling a frothing, spittle-flecked, hysterical ninny a frothing, spittle-flecked, hysterical ninny.”

    Hysterical?

No. Hysterical is a documented sexual harasser stating the destruction of San Francisco as a net gain. Hysterical is joking about the assassination of Obama only to meekly apologize. Hysterical is when you associate everyone slightly progressive minded as a widening far-left terrorist-sympathizing conspiracy orchestrated by George Soros.

That could apply to someone like Jay as well, who accuses the new opposition candidate of being “A ROOKIE” because of a speech MISSTATEMENTS!!!11!! while ignoring every garbled remark to come out of the mouth of George Bush, who has the benefit of a long career in politics and could still fuck up a baked potato.

Add to that steaming pile of blog with REALLY hysterical ninnies, spaghetti-strapped nitwits who are experts in their own minds. It’s all good for them though, the comment board is a Tijuana-grade bukkake fest.

    That’s hysterical.

Meh, he’s already doing that. See Lewis, Richard.

Don’t forget children who get abducted.
