What The Hell Is “Main Core”

2:42 pm EST May 20th, 2008 | News | 28 Comments

Big Brother?

According to a senior government official…”There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ‘enemies of the state’ almost instantaneously.” … One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.

    8 MILLION?

    *blink*

    *blink*

In a “state of emergency,” whatever that may be, the American government reserves the right to round up 8 MILLION PEOPLE?!

Leaving behind for a moment the issue of crazy fucking scary this revelation is, the first question that pops into my mind is: “How, exactly, do you intend to do that?”

  2. Crusty Dem says:

I’m not sure, but I’ll bet that a search for Willis, Oliver comes back with a DFH tag.

Of course, I gave money to Obama, so I’m probably on there, too.

  3. michael says:

Well, after googling that shit, I’m not getting to sleep tonight. Thanks, Oliver.

  4. durablend says:

Not sure if it adds up, but I’m guessing the rolls here, along with DU, Dkos, and the other “hate sites” (ie ones not kissing Bush’s behind) make up a decent portion of that 8 million (couple of percent, at least)

I’m with SpiderJ on this one.

In the event of a national emergency, these [8 million] people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.

And just who are you going to get to do that? Four million NSA agents?

Oh, and for the benefit of anyone “official” tracking this stuff? It’s spelled S-E-A-N, not Shawn or Shaun or Jean. And I always include the D just to make it easier for you to distinguish me from the other Sean Martins out there. Just trying to make your jobs easier. But when/if the time comes? Bring it on, and quite the opposite will be the case.

  6. Vanessa says:

I wonder if you get put on Main Core for Google searching “Main Core.”

  7. Vanessa says:

    ‘Cause I just Googled it.

  8. Sean D. Martin says:

Vanessa – You probably get put on a list the first time you posted a comment.

Maybe in order to understand Main Core, we have to look at the word itself: “maincore.” Basically, it’s made up of two separate words — “mainc” and “ore”. What do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is Main Core.

  10. midderpidge says:

I beleive the former name for it was “Moveon.org mailing list”.

If you rearrange the letters, you get:
    - Americon (tricking the country?)
    - Ream icon (screwing the Constitution?)
    - Rain come (bad times ahead?)
    and
    - A crime? No. (Which is what they’ll say)

  12. Bunch of babies. They are all controlled by fear and pride. They want control so bad that the loss of it, or even the possibility of losing it, is frightening to them. They like to mock criticism, hiding behind the fact that they aren’t as bad as other tyrants. The values are the same. Just because they haven’t rounded up people here and killed them in the same extreme manner of other regimes is no excuse for their identical fear based value system. They all believe they are important enough to require the control of others.

They’re like the creepy jealous boyfriend who tracks all the numbers their girlfriend called.

  13. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    … Fuck.

You know, for a while there I thought I couldn’t be shocked by these people anymore.

When the Democrats take over, they need to use the powers the Republicans granted the executive branch to make sure the NeoCons never come into power ever again. Whoever came up with this idea should be sent to a black ops site and ‘vigorously interrogated’ till they are no longer able to shit on the constitution again.

    Hey Matt,

Nice Jack Handey “Deep Thoughts” reference (original was “mank” and “ind” for “mankind,” as I recall).

  15. somejackass says:

Screwed up as this is, I’m guessing that illegal immigrants are the bulk of this list. There are 12-20 million of them according to wikipedia, and they have fewer rights to begin with. I very much doubt that garden variety liberals like the readership of this blog are on it, and believe me I’m no Bush apologist.

  16. Rheinhard says:

This is the first step of the emergency backup plan if Obama gets elected and the Dems gain 60 seats in the Senate. You think Cheney is going to allow a Congress like that to be seated without a fight? For practical reasons you’re right, they couldn’t just arrest 8 million people – but they damn sure could find a way to challenge their right to cast a vote.

  17. Rheinhard says:

Ah dammit, why isn’t there a preview button? I forgot that this thing interprets greater/less that signs as tag delimiters, and so my final sentence “{conspiracies are fun!}” got left off above!

  18. Duros62 says:

Screwed up as this is, I’m guessing that illegal immigrants are the bulk of this list.

Um, well, if there was a list of undocumented immigrants, there wouldn’t be such a problem with illegal immigrants, would there?

  19. By the way, this should not be a surprise to anyone. From phone call records, to monitoring protests, and the post-9/11 spread of all-way street cameras in the most insignificant intersections of the tiniest towns, watching us has been a highlight of this administration. Will Obama stop this? Will Obama have the cameras taken down? Will Obama release the records? Obama, if you or your future staffers are reading this, please note my questions. The cameras, the database, and the spying are too much. To know that my googling can get me noticed, or that someone may be using the cameras to watch where I drive, is unsettling. If you would, please. Thanks.

  20. Scratch says:

Sounds like a lot of uninformed speculation about a database that people know very little about.

“Might be incarcerated in a time of panic”? Give me a break.

  21. Dr. Victor Davis Handjob says:

You know, Jack Handey has a new book out, and it’s really quite funny. I highly recommend it. Also, this Main Core thing is something I fully expect Obama to get rid of, and McCain to keep. Yet another example of conservatives’ sick love of Big Government.

  22. The Reality-Based Dave says:

When the shit hits the fan, stay away from any sports staduims…
“While fatalities due to battle during the coup might have been relatively small, tens of thousands of people were arrested during the coup and held in the National Stadium. This was because the plans for the coup called for the arrest of every man, woman and child on the streets the morning of September 11. Of these approximately 40,000 to 50,000 prefunctory arrests, several hundred individuals would later be detained, questioned, tortured, and in some cases murdered. While these deaths did not occur before the surrender of Allende’s forces, they occurred as a direct result of arrests and round-ups during the coup’s military action. Furthermore, a death squad known as the “Caravan of Death” (including Pedro Espinoza Bravo, who later became operations chief of the DINA) roamed Chile from September 30, 1973 to October 22, 1973, and executed without judgment between 75 and 97 political opponents which were already detained by the military ”

If your not a conservative, old, white man you are anti-american. You’ll wind up in the maincore data base and in a Halliburton detention center. So get in line for your American Union I.D. and complimentary microchip in your skin. I love Soviet America. go beavers!!!!

    The only solution…REVOLUTION..!

  25. Deviate Fish says:

This might be another “tinfoil hat” story, but if it is true, may the infinite powers of the cosmos help us all. That is just going too damn far. When and if martial law occurs and the alleged database noted above gets put to use, there’ll only be two ways out of it besides death: get the hell out of this godforsaken country or rise up and start, or join, the revolution against these power-mad neo-nazi fools who run the country today.

  26. Chris says:

I don’t know why anyone would doubt this story. Remember the Air Force general that wanted to use that microwave weapon on Americans first so that the rest of the world couldn’t whine about it being used overseas? NOTHING surprises me anymore. Scary and damn sad!

Well gang, I did a usenet search…zip on main core…even tried upper case. Got nothing on google. Guess all that’s left to do is try to hack it, though at my current age my hacking skills aren’t what they once were, i’ll keep ya’ll posted on any success I have. It ought not to be much of a challenge considering the low intelligence quotient exhibited by the Bush gang.
