McCain Family Money Helped Fuel Sudan’s Genocide Government In Darfur

No wonder they’re hiding Cindy McCain’s money that fuels John McCain’s campaigns.

Cindy McCain, whose husband has been a critic of the violence in Sudan, sold off more than $2 million in mutual funds whose holdings include companies that do business in the African nation.

The sale on Wednesday came after The Associated Press questioned the investments in light of calls by John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, for international financial sanctions against the Sudanese leadership.

Last year, at least four presidential candidates divested themselves of Sudan-related holdings.

According to McCain’s personal financial disclosure, Cindy McCain’s investments include two mutual funds — American Funds Europacific Growth fund and American Funds Capital World Growth and Income fund — that are listed by the Sudan Divestment Task Force as targets for divestment.

Mutual Funds??? Are you kidding. Is that all you can come up with?
I bet the vast majority of pension funds in this country have investments in mutual funds which also invest in companies with business in the sudan. Does that make the average teacher a funder of genocide?

By your dumbass logic people who invest in GE are funding the tibetan genocide since GE has a plant in China.

Please come up with something better.

    Yup. This is weak.

  3. TinEar says:

You know, it’s been out for quite a while that Joe Wilson has been knee deep in Sudan Oil and not a peep from the left, but Mutual Funds? That’s “Fuel[ing] Sudan’s Genocide Government In Darfur” Whatever.

  4. daniel rotter says:

TinEar, Joe Wilson isn’t running for President of the U.S.A. (or for anything else, for that matter).

    Daniel Rotter

True, but he and his friend Larry Johnson, who by the way works for the same company seeking Sudan oil, are doing their level best to associate Obama with the likes of terrorists and shady deals and are premier Hillary supporters. Making ads for her and heavily campaigning for a presidential candidate. Two of McCain campaign staff resigned for work they did on behalf of corrupt governments.

  6. Jay says:

This is especially weak when you read a little further down:

A year ago, several presidential candidates divested themselves of Sudan-related holdings. Among them were Democrats Barack Obama and John Edwards

Above this entry, Oliver is pronouncing he has a major boner for a Obama/Edwards ticket, but he apparently ignored this because he’s more interested in taking cheap shots at Cindy McCain.

  7. Scratch says:

Headline should be modified to read, “McCain Family Money Helped Fuel Sudan’s Genocide Government In Darfur for Almost a Year Longer Than Obama, Edwards.”

  8. Quaker in a Basement says:

But of course, Jay never makes the well-they-do-it-too argument. He told us so just this week!

  9. Enlightened Liberal says:

Quaker, J will be back soon to tell you how your comparision is COMPLETELY invalid, and that’s because he says so darn it!

  10. Dawn says:

This is ridiculous. ANy AMerican that has a 401K or other investments could be doing the same thing w/out realizing it. Other presidential candidates (Edwards and Obama) were doing the same thing. It happens…what horse shi* this “drama” is…

“Two of McCain campaign staff resigned for work they did on behalf of corrupt governments.”

Are Joe Wilson and Larry Johnson on Hillary’s campaign staff?

  12. Jet says:

What a friggen joke! Cindy McCain had $2 million in a MUTUAL FUND that invested in Dufar. She divested herself out of it as did….get ready for it….

    SEN. BARACK OBAMA

    From the Washington Post:

“Cindy McCain’s decision to sell the investments come after several other presidential candidates, including Democrat Barack Obama, last year chose to divest of Sudan-related stocks and mutual funds. Her investments in the mutual funds are listed on disclosure forms McCain is required to file as a senator and candidate.”
