You were expecting us to be surprised?
Oliver, your readers have slammed West Virginia enough for everyone.
(FWIW I’m not from there and have no family there, but broad generalizations based on geographic lines – especially from people who are supposed to be “open-minded” – really piss me off.)
I am one of the nastier slammers of West Virginia here, and I am proud of every high stick to the face I threw the country boys. Politically, religiously and culturally, they oppose my interests and I feel no kinship with them. They are not my people, though my taxes add a drop to the federal taxes paid by horrible higher-income urban liberals like me to fund every porkbarrel project that Robert Kleagle Byrd can throw them.
But I am not an Obama operative, and any Obama operative who talks like I type should be fired.
Hell, I live in the NY section of Appalachia, don’t try and tell me these bastards aren’t racist. These scumbags drive around with confederate flags on their pick-up trucks. I want to reiterate that this is in NY.
So yeah, this isn’t a shock. Luckily, most of Appalachia is already Republican or has enough of real America to counteract the traitorous parts.
Good point, Oliver. Let us hope that class will tell this election. I think it already has, and I think it will continue to, but I have the sense that the wingnuts have not yet begun to slime.
Oliver, your readers have slammed West Virginia enough for everyone.
You’re right. I know I have. But I’m sure they’ll be fine.
I’m not sure people are really understanding the difference between saying “all racists are bad” and saying “all West Virginians are bad.” You may mean the former, but you keep saying the latter.
Just like every other state in the country, West Virginia has intellectuals, opera lovers, liberals, hippies, racists, NASCAR fans, truck drivers, and plenty of other types of people.
If you think all West Virginians are racist, then what are you telling the 90,000 plus who voted for Obama yesterday?
I second Jojo’s comment. It’s been very off-putting to watch Oliver and others jump on the “So what, West Virginia is full of racist hicks” bandwagon.
I’m glad I don’t hear it from the candidate himself.
