I’ll be your token West Virginian. Yes, I was born and raised here. I’m a white, educated, 40-something female with an income level in the 6-digits. I CHOSE to return here from The Big City Suburbs of Washington, DC to raise my 2 children, both of whom were conceived within the confines of marriage to a man to whom I’m not otherwise related. Neither of them were born before my 25th birthday. I even have all my original teeth!

We as a people don’t have a lot of money to piss away on frivilous things, yet 90% of the people I work with have Blackberries … the majority of the middle schoolers my children go to school with have IPods, Blackberries, cell phones, MP3 players … all the modern “toys” that make society think you’re *somebody*. Look! I even have a computer right here in my very own home!! I’m even connected to the internet!

I voted for Obama. Not because I “like” him, but because he scares me less than Hillary does. Realistically (call me backward thinking if you must), I don’t think our world is ready for a woman to hold the highest office in our country. Do you really think countries that don’t allow their women to go out in public are really going to treat a female president with the respect the office deserves?

Frankly, the cold, harsh reality is, our world isn’t ready for either a black man (yes, I said *black* – I called myself *white* as opposed to Irish-Cherokee-German-American) or a woman. It’s not us – it’s the rest of the world.

I would venture to guess that the reason you have no West Virginians commenting here is that, we don’t generally feel the need to defend ourselves. Unlike you who are so quick & harsh to judge, nor do we generally feel inclined to hack on people whose cultures are beyond our comprehension, whose lifestyles we can’t begin to understand and whose ignorance is matched only by the magnitude of their stupidity.

Given the larger situation, that is: wars, economic turmoil, an unending parade of devastating natural disasters, etc., The Hillbot’s stunningly pointless victory seems almost, well, stupid. Unless you’re a Senator Bush, er, McCain supporter. They’re delighted. Delighted in that vapid kind of way of theirs.

I believe the glorious end is near. I am joyfully anticipating the moment more each day.

I just feel sorry for them. The rest of the country makes solid progress away from racism, and then these little pockets are stuck in the past. That’s bad enough, but then to have these pockets having such an impact on the nation… I don’t know. It’s just a shame.

Over at Pandagon, those proud and pure progressive liberals can actually be seen discussing literacy tests to determine voting rights. And they seriously don’t get that they are not the first people to think of this, or understand that even though their reasons for doing so are pure of heart and reek of scientism, that not everyone will be so pure of heart or reality based.
