The Story Of The Campaign

How the Clinton family has been decimated in the black vote. The erosion cannot simply be explained away by the idea that Obama is “the black candidate”. A big chunk of that number is a community finding hope with Obama as their vessel, but that doesn’t explain why Clinton now gets single-digit support among black voters.

Looks (to me) like Hillary lost with black voters at the start…

totally off-topic but since gary/lake county are being delayed:

    indianapolis: 860454 people, 24% black, 177096 turnout (20%), 2to1 obama (60k difference)

gary (lake county): 484564 people, 25% black, in chicago market, expect a ~33k pickup for obama… currently there is a 40k difference. in the statewide vote. expectation: less than 1% margin for clinton.

Hillary just declared victory in Indiana!

OMFG…and nobody’s called it yet (still too close)

  5. somejackass says:

She does have Indiana, but just barely. Think about it from a game theory perspective, from her point of view. The cost of her not declaring victory is major. The headlines tomorrow are that Obama has sealed the deal. The cost of her getting it wrong is minimal – if she lost Indiana, she has to bow out anyway. Of course, she’ll probably have to anyway, but her best chance was to declare victory, pray for it, and pray for some other miracles.

Matthew Yglesias pointed out that George Allen got 16 percent of the African-American vote in 2006.

Taylor Marsh’s blog called Indiana for Clinton three hours ago. And we’re still waiting for Lake County results to come in.

Hillary didn’t just lose the black vote. She lost the vote of most sane people as well. The only people left in her voting base traditionally vote Republican, so it’s no loss if Obama can’t court them. They’re going to go with McCain anyway.

Great win by Obama tonight. God willing, there might be two of them when all is said and done.

  8. KXB says:

She lost the black vote, the college-educated vote, Obama pulls even with white men, and Obama owns the youth vote. Obama is unlikely to make inroads with older voters, so he has to now aim towards married women in the suburbs. His best bet of is the Rocky Mountain states. With the exception of Virginia and maybe Florida, I don’t see much hope for him in the South.

  9. The Reality-Based Dave says:

She lost the black vote because they know what a pandering conservative republican sounds like. Like any republican, when she tries to make nice with the black community, she’s not really speaking to them. She’s trying to convince the white suburbanites that she actually cares for people.
