I assume you’re only going by my comments here, on this particular article, since the numerous comments I’ve made on other threads should convince anyone I’m not a conservative. Although that still puzzles me since my comments here were only advocating that folks not nit pick on unimportant items and I certainly acknowledge there are lots of reasons to not like McCain.

I think you miss part of my point. McCain may be fundamentally not up to the job mentally. And continued confusion of Shiite/Sunni, particularly after it’s pointed out to him several times, could be used as evidence of that. But a West/Wake slip, particularly when he immediately corrects himself, is not. It’s hardly a step above pointing out his tie is crooked and saying oh, looky it’s proof he has arthritis.

Certainly there is plenty to attack McCain on, including more significant examples of any mental insufficiencies. Please don’t stoop to picking on the trivial glitches that everyone has experienced as if they were newsworthy.

Apples, oranges. They are not the same. McCain’s recent slips hint at a potential fundamental obstacle to doing the job. We already had 5 years of a President with Alzheimers who didn’t grasp key parts of his job and therefore let advisors run the country.

On the other hand, Obama isn’t pounced on because he forgot his pin, he often skips the pin because it isn’t a real symbol of patriotism and by not wearing it he is making a statement that actions are more important than symbolism.

The John McCain the media fell in love with in 2000 isn’t on the ballot in 2008. And the proof has all but jumped up and grabbed the media by the throat: the ring-kiss of “agents of intolerance” Falwell and Robertson; the decision to make permanent tax cuts he twice voted against, saying he could not “in good conscience support” them; the campaign finance reformer replaced with a candidate whose campaign is run by lobbyists and fueled by loophole rides on his wife’s jet; the hard-line stance against torture replaced by a vote allowing waterboarding; the guarded-by-a-battalion stroll through the “safe” neighborhoods of Baghdad; the use of Karl Rove as an advisor… and the embracing of the disastrous policies of a man he so abhorred he would not vote for him.

To paraphrase Ray Romano,”When the kids run around naked , its cute but when grandpa does it, it’s a traaagedy.”

Sunni/Shiite more than once indicates a lack of basic knowledge on a key issue.

You want to make a legitimate complaint about his age and mental faculties, then do so. But this ain’t it.

How hypocritical is it for folks who complain about Obama getting pounced on for not wearing a lapel pin to then pounce on others for a small misspeak?
