Oops. Didn't see that Quaker beat me to the Huffpo link.

But my point still stands. Either it's a symptom of something wrong with BOTH candidates or it's an ordinary verbal slip that everybody does at times.

“McCain appeared confused about where he was”
That ain’t any good when you’re the oldest candidate for president.

OK, so when McCain makes a verbal slip (even if he immediately corrects himself) it's proof that he's teetering on the edge of senility. So what do you call it when Obama appears confused about not only where he is but also what month it is?

“Did Senator Obama know to whom he was speaking? Likely not. That’s been his problem lately on the campaign trail–not knowing exactly where he was. He even made a joke about it in Hickory when he tried to recall where he had just met someone whose story he wanted to tell. “We were down in–where were we?” Quickly he came up with Winston-Salem, and everybody laughed. Monday in Wilmington, however, not only did he seem not to know Wilmington but the date and time, saying that it was “March” and “nine months to November.” The fact that his audiences are largely composed of die-hard fervent loyalists usually masks this underlying dis-connection.”

Please don’t stoop to picking on the trivial glitches that everyone has experienced as if they were newsworthy

But if he didn't do that, then Oliver would quickly run out of things to post about.

Sean: But West Virginia and then correcting himself to Wake Forest? Who hasn’t made slips like that? You want to make a legitimate complaint about his age and mental faculties, then do so. But this ain’t it.

Enlightened Liberal: Based on your former comments, I assumed you weren’t a liberal

WTF??

Scratch: I heard this speech, and he did not sound even remotely confused. He said “West Virginia,” then immediately corrected himself and said “Wake Forest.” When I say immediate, I mean before he was even done saying the word “Virginia.” It was a slip of the tongue and nothing more.

Brian: In an interview with Matt Lauer, Obama called him “Tim” three times!!! They get tired. Big F-ing deal…

Ah, I take it then that Scratch and Brian aren't liberals either.

Based on your former comments, I assumed you weren’t a liberal,

I assume you're only going by my comments here, on this particular article, since the numerous comments I've made on other threads should convince anyone I'm not a conservative. Although that still puzzles me since my comments here were only advocating that folks not nit pick on unimportant items and I certainly acknowledge there are lots of reasons to not like McCain.

Since when is suggesting we don't use the tactics we object to others using a non-liberal view?

No, Sean, they are newsworthy if they are part of a pattern. As Quaker and Oliver have pointed out, they are. Who knows if McCain is having age related mental difficulties. The cold reality is that we can't afford them in the White House and therefore each of these issues needs to be examined as to McSame's fitness for the White House.

"FYI, I’m not a Democrat."

Based on your former comments, I assumed you weren't a liberal, I'm likely not surprised you're not a Democrat. Still and all, you should be smart enough not to make false equivalencies.

How can we be saved, from his eternal grave?

EL: McCain’s recent slips hint at a potential fundamental obstacle to doing the job.

I think you miss part of my point. McCain may be fundamentally not up to the job mentally. And continued confusion of Shiite/Sunni, particularly after it's pointed out to him several times, could be used as evidence of that. But a West/Wake slip, particularly when he immediately corrects himself, is not. It's hardly a step above pointing out his tie is crooked and saying oh, looky it's proof he has arthritis.

Certainly there is plenty to attack McCain on, including more significant examples of any mental insufficiencies. Please don't stoop to picking on the trivial glitches that everyone has experienced as if they were newsworthy.

EL: I expected more of a Democrat than to do the same thing.

FYI, I'm not a Democrat.

McCain’s recent slips hint at a potential fundamental obstacle to doing the job.

This isn't the first time this has happened:

Did [he] know to whom he was speaking? Likely not. That's been his problem lately on the campaign trail--not knowing exactly where he was. He even made a joke about it in Hickory when he tried to recall where he had just met someone whose story he wanted to tell. "We were down in--where were we?" Quickly he came up with Winston-Salem, and everybody laughed. Monday in Wilmington, however, not only did he seem not to know Wilmington but the date and time, saying that it was "March" and "nine months to November."

"How hypocritical is it for folks who complain about Obama getting pounced on for not wearing a lapel pin to then pounce on others for a small misspeak?"

Apples, oranges. They are not the same. McCain's recent slips hint at a potential fundamental obstacle to doing the job. We already had 5 years of a President with Alzheimers who didn't grasp key parts of his job and therefore let advisors run the country.

On the other hand, Obama isn't pounced on because he forgot his pin, he often skips the pin because it isn't a real symbol of patriotism and by not wearing it he is making a statement that actions are more important than symbolism.

You know Sean, there are enough wingnuts to make false equivalencies, I expected more of a Democrat than to do the same thing.

From Huffpo

The John McCain the media fell in love with in 2000 isn't on the ballot in 2008. And the proof has all but jumped up and grabbed the media by the throat: the ring-kiss of "agents of intolerance" Falwell and Robertson; the decision to make permanent tax cuts he twice voted against, saying he could not "in good conscience support" them; the campaign finance reformer replaced with a candidate whose campaign is run by lobbyists and fueled by loophole rides on his wife's jet; the hard-line stance against torture replaced by a vote allowing waterboarding; the guarded-by-a-battalion stroll through the "safe" neighborhoods of Baghdad; the use of Karl Rove as an advisor... and the embracing of the disastrous policies of a man he so abhorred he would not vote for him.

To paraphrase Ray Romano,"When the kids run around naked , its cute but when grandpa does it, it's a traaagedy."

And the proof has all but jumped up and grabbed the media by the throat: the ring-kiss of “agents of intolerance” Falwell and Robertson; the decision to make permanent tax cuts he twice voted against, saying he could not “in good conscience support” them; the campaign finance reformer replaced with a candidate whose campaign is run by lobbyists and fueled by loophole rides on his wife’s jet; the hard-line stance against torture replaced by a vote allowing waterboarding; the guarded-by-a-battalion stroll through the “safe” neighborhoods of Baghdad; the use of Karl Rove as an advisor… and the embracing of the disastrous policies of a man he so abhorred he would not vote for him.

To paraphrase Ray Romano,”When the kids run around naked , its cute but when grandpa does it, it’s a traaagedy.”

So, anyone got a REAL complaint to make about his age? I've seen a lot of people, including several considerably younger than any of the candidates running, who have confused similar sounding words.

Sunni/Shiite more than once indicates a lack of basic knowledge on a key issue.

But West Virginia and then correcting himself to Wake Forest? Who hasn't made slips like that?

You want to make a legitimate complaint about his age and mental faculties, then do so. But this ain't it.

How hypocritical is it for folks who complain about Obama getting pounced on for not wearing a lapel pin to then pounce on others for a small misspeak?
