What John Stagliano is doing is perfectly legal and falls under the first amendment.

A grand jury has socked Stagliano with eight obscenity violations for selling adult videos online and via unmarked packing envelopes shipped by the U.S. Postal Service. None of the films contain children. This is not a child-porn case.

Since the feds have had minimal luck over the years going after the makers of standard smut, this time they’re taking a kinkier approach, targeting Stagliano for films aimed at fans of fluid fetishes.

At the same time the feds waste money prosecuting this man, we lack funds to go after child abusers.

More than 624,000 computers in the USA have traded child pornography, much of it showing the sexual abuse of very young children, in the past 2½ years, a leading police authority planned to tell Congress at a hearing Wednesday.
Yet federal authorities with limited resources pursue fewer than 1% of the leads, according to a USA TODAY analysis of government data.

Prosecute the free speech of consenting adults doing what they please, but when it comes to protecting children from the worst sort of crime short of murder and hands are tied.

What the hell?

That’s because 99.9% of the viewers of child porn are Republican elected officials or donors or voters. Lock them up and they can’t vote anymore.

They hate children because they “cost tax dollars” with schools, sidewalks and other things the Norquistians don’t want to pay for

“That’s because 99.9% of the viewers of child porn are Republican elected officials or donors or voters.”

I cross-referenced the registered sex offender list for my city against the FEC’s list of donors. Of the 311 names I checked, four had made a donation to someone or something the FEC tracked. One had donated $200 to the Republican COngressional Reelection Committee. The other three had donated to Democratic functions; none to a specific candidate or campaign.

The sample size is far too small. It’s possible that the city is simply more Democratic than Republican so even our criminals will trend more in that direction. And then it’s possible that a sex offender simply happens to share a name with someone else who lives in the same zip code. Also, none of the four I found were guilty of possession or trafficking of child pornography.

If I had the time, money, or inclination it might be more useful to check the registered voter lists against the sex offender website. That way you have a larger sample.

Make it easy on yourself. Google Republican sex scandals.

Ironically, when I Googled “Republican Sex Scandal” the first hit was “Republican sex scandal got Obama elected”.

But the topic at hand wasn’t the old run-of-the-mill sex scandals, but the suggestion that 99.9% of people who seek child porn and are not apprehended are Republicans. Since it’s difficult to prove a negative (ie everyone who is NOT caught) then I have to work with what is available. And, I’m sure this is a great disappointment to you Merl, but Democrats are just as guilty of sexual misconduct as Republicans.

Republican politicians involving in sex scandals with minors:

Mark Foley (sexual IMs with a minor)

Buz Lukens (gave a “gift” of $40 to a 16 year old girl with whom he was having sex; guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor)

Democratic politicians involved in sex scandals with minors:

Neil Goldschmidt (over two year affair with a girl beginning when she was 14 while he was the mayor of Portland, OR; Goldschmidt avoided criminal charges because the statute of limitations had expired on 3rd degree rape)

Fred Richmond (soliciting sex from a 16 year old boy; charges were dropped after he agreed to undergo counseling)

Mel Reynolds (had sex with a 16 year old girl who volunteered to work for his campaign; was convicted of sexual assault, obstruction of justice, and solicitation of child pornography; served five years in prison for the sexual assault, and served over 3 years in jail on unrelated charges of bank fraud, his sentance was commutted by President Clinton shortly before he left office).

So, final tally of the political sex scandals with minors: three democrats and two republicans. The only child pornography charges were against a Democrat, and one from each party was a chickenhawk. One Republican and two Democrats used their positions in government to find their victims. All-in-all pretty disgusting all around.

So, sorry Merl, but unless there is a very quiet conspiracy involving every law enforcement agency in America to ignore people registered as Republicans when it comes to child pornography, you’re over-estimating the percentage of Republicans by about 49.9%.
