I think a better analogy is McCain is a straight talker the same as Bush was the Businessman President. Both pretend.

Agreed that it certainly should be. But it is an available resort.

So can someone (Oliver? Anyone? Anyone? Beuhler?) explain to me what's wrong with what McCain said in the quote Oliver posted?

SDM: Where is the line drawn?
Duros: Hard to say

Absolutely. And I think for all the stupid things he does say and believe, McCain gets jumped on for being McCain even when some of what he says makes sense. “I don’t think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces.” being a case in point.

Is anyone going to say there is never a situation in which the US can act pre-emptively? Because if they won't, then they agree with John McCain. And the only thing left to discuss is degree.

Where is the line drawn?
Hard to say, Sean. if you complain to the cops about your neighbor, they'll tell you they can't do anything because he hasn't done anything wrong....yet. But if you act "pre-emptively", you get charged.
Perhaps it is a matter of scale, where different rules apply to the State.

That analogy gives way too much credit to Bush (or sells XP short, either way). At this point WinXP is a perfectly fine operating system, whereas Vista is a horror show.

As said above, if you just leave out XP, Bush is like WinMe, and McCain then is like Vista.

“I don’t think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United States of America faces.”

Do we always have to let the bad guys shoot first? Are there no circumstances in which a country can't take a pre-emptive move to defend itself?

If I look across the fence and see my neighbor building up an arsenal and pointing it at my house, can't I strike the actual first physical blow and smash his guns? Or do I have to wait until he launches his salvo and my house is dust?

Or is it just a matter of scale? I can bomb his nuclear plant because he might use it to make bomb-grade material, but can't launch a wholesale invasion. Where is the line drawn?

But XP eventually was made to work fairly well by the time SP2 came out. Would that parallel Bush's "History will like totally vindicate me and junk" argument?

Plus... alright I'll just upfront and admit it, I kinda like Vista. I haven't been having the same problems with it other people have, large-scale networking, hardware compatability and such, which isnt to say i think they're insignificant, just that they haven't gotten in my way yet, but seriously what major OS doesnt have a rocky start with compatability? (Well yes, Leopard didn't, but when you control the hardware market as well as the OS thats a bit of an unfair advantage) I seriously don't know how to deal with this though, am I like the only person in all of the tubular interwebs that doesn't have a grudge against Vista?
