John McCain’s 100 Years In Iraq: Adventures In Occupied Alabama

Trying to justify John McCain’s plan to keep America in Iraq for at least 100 years, conservatives push the idea that the invasion of Iraq is just like American armies being in the south after the civil war.

How do they know how to breathe? Is a cheat sheet given out?

    Bring them home! … from the South?

    Just plain dumb.

    The fact that the confederate states were readmitted back into the Union ceased any idea of the ‘Union’ “occupying” the ‘South.’

    They wrote their e-mail in the present tense, so it is not like people are making this buffoonery up out of whole cloth.

    I’m starting to interpret your insistence that McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years as dry wit, rather than the deliberate partisan falsehood it came across as the first seven or eight times.

    Mr. McCain said it would be “fine with me” if we maintained a military presence in Iraq for 100 years.

    After he said it, some rendered his remark as “war for 100 years,” and yes, that’s a distortion. But if you’re trying to make the difference between “fine with me” and “wants to stay” into a falsehood, that’s a pretty narrow distinction.

    That’s because McCain doesn’t have an actual Iraq plan other than continuing Bush’s botched occupation. Since he doesn’t have a plan to end it you can consider “FOREVER” to be OK with McCain.

    Allright, let’s post it again:

    Questioner: President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for fifty years…
    McCain: Maybe a hundred. Make it one hundred. We’ve been in South Korea, we’ve been in Japan for sixty years. We’ve been in South Korea for fifty years or so. That’d be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. Then it’s fine with me. I would hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day.

    What would you say his “plan” is, Scratch?

    Some are saying “McCain doesn’t have an actual Iraq plan”, others are saying “He doesn’t plan to be there for 100 years”.

    Sounds to me everyone is saying essentially the same thing: McCain doesn’t have a plan.

    I think we can sum it across the board by simply saying “McCain doesn’t have a clue.”

    McCain: I do too have glue. It keeps my tooths in.
