During a public appearance on Saturday, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) belittled a U.S. soldier in Iraq who was following orders and wouldn’t let McHenry go to the gym without the proper credentials. McHenry referred to the guard as a “two-bit security guard”

What a POS. Where was the outrage when Murtha called our Marines cold blooded murderers? But the two bit guard stuff provokes outrage? Hmmm. Five of the eight Marines have had all charges against them dropped .

Interesting - what in his telling of the story makes you so sure he was describing an American soldier and not, for example, some local Iraqi hired to play doorman at the gym? Just from casual reading I recall that baghdad security is provided by some mix of US troops, foreign troops, Iraqi security forces, and private contractors.
Whatev - it makes a better story if this is a US soldier, so carry on. In fact, why not claim it was a disabled US veteran whose father died in Vietnam and whose mom was, hmmm, living on food stamps and waiting for the day her some would come home? This whole facts and evidence thing gets so tedious.

Murtha was once a Marine himself. That seems to have escaped you. I doubt he called all Marines murders. Most likely just the ones that were involved in the Haditha incident. And how many of the five will testify against the other 3? We don’t know the whole story yet.

And the other three? There was a cold blooded murder that took place. Just because some people who were initially charged had the charges dropped doesn’t mean there wasn’t a murder. Hell, considering the military’s track record on this, it doesn’t mean those five were not guilty.

Not disagreeing with your assessment of him, but please don’t stop to just tossing out “Oh, and I once heard somewhere that someone claimed they read a blog that said his sister was a THESPIAN!” type crap.

Get your facts straight.
Seems that if he was a Marine himself he might be a bit more careful. I mean he is one of the few congressmen I’ve actually seen the enemy use in their propaganda. He helps motivate people to kill out marines? unwittingly I suppose? This man has access to the President and everyone else. I don’t have a problem with him chewing the asses of everyone from top to bottom. But his public comments were exceedingly damaging.
Good point about the identity of the guard being in question. Still not a good thing to say regardless.

So, if I follow this correctly, he’s dissing a guard because the guard did his job correctly and didn’t let McHenry into a place where he didn’t have the credentials to go.

Especially when that contractor/soldier/child is doing exactly what they should be doing. It’s McHenry who was trying to go someplace he shouldn’t and made a fuss about it when his access was legitimately denied. It was the “two bit security guard” who legitimately denied that access and McHenry who was escorted back to his room.
What an ass.
But remember, he lurvs him some troops.
