A 3AM Call… On The Economy?
Ok, the Clinton people aren’t even really trying now. This ad is stupid.
UPDATE: One of Ambinder’s commenters hits the nail on the head for why this ad stinks.
Did the focus groups really like this one? It makes no sense to me. Economic crises don’t come all of a sudden, they develop over days and even years. “Mrs. President, I’m sorry to wake you up, but a cell of bankers has activated and is foreclosing on millions of homes!”

Whaaaa?
Who would be calling about a financial crisis at 3 a.m.? The markets are closed, right? And who cares whether the kids are asleep in their beds when there’s a financial meltdown? Would it be better if they were spending the night at Grandma’s?
Unless they’re talking about some sort of metaphorical “3 a.m. in America,” this makes no sense at all.
I take that back. Even then it makes no sense.
Did the first 3am ad actually work for Clinton? I’ve heard it helped her out in Texas just after it was first used, but within a very short time it seemed to me that it was mostly fodder for Letterman/Leno jokes and satires on YouTube.
Why use anything that harks back to it?
Everyone knows when she picks up the phone, she’ll just hand it over to Bill. Who are they trying to kid?
Psh. Dura, you got it backwards. HRC has been the brains of the outfit all along.
Overnight Markets are open in Asia and Europe and it is possible to buy stock market futures and bundled contracts at any time of day.
The problem with this message and with the whole theme is not that it is a bad message. The problem is that Hillary is a lousy salesperson and doesn’t even sound like she believes the message herself.
Hillary likes that 3 a.m. time slot for taking phone calls. She’s always up at that hour anyway, waiting for Bill to come home…

Obama just landed another one…
jesus, doesn’t she ever sleep?
I mean, wow. Even if the message made any sense, nice use of recycled footage. Way to run an inevitable campaign on the cheap.
The phone call is coming from inside the house!!!
