At least he doesn’t refer to himself as “John McCain”. Of course, not content for that simple improvement over the Bob Dole campaign, he has to say “my friends” all the time.

If it was just age, it wouldn’t be an issue. But age becomes an issue when health and mental fitness problems are present. That is the case here.

Plus there is his questionable “family values” (Adultery),
his questionable ties to lobbyists (running his campaign), his questionable demeanor (temper, temper), his questionable acceptance of his wife’s….um…proclivities, his questionable grasp of economics, his questionable adherence to the public finance rules that HE WROTE.

etc., etc.

In my view, his age is pretty far down the list.

No, no, no. It’s both. A young person has a better shot at recovering from health problems than an old person. This isn’t prejudice, it’s medical fact. Same with mental fitness. Someone who misspeaks occasionally as a young man is one thing. Someone who starts doing that more and more as they get older is another.

No, that’s his health and fitness being an issue, not his age. I do realize there is a correlation between more years and likelihood of having more health issues, and perhaps saying “age” serves as a useful shorthand for the several other things that might be individually listed. But I’m really tired of hearing McCain is unfit “because of his age.”

He’s old, he’s shown signs of being out of it a few times during the campaign so far, and he’s battled cancer three times since 2000.

Maybe someone should check to make sure that McCain was actually in CT at the time Pearl Harbor occured. Between Clinton thinking she was being shot at in Bosnia, and Obama crediting the Civil Rights marches in Selma, AL, two years before his birth, with his conception, there has been no shortage of breakdowns in space-time this election cycle.

Of course not. Elvis and JFK were facetious. But it is interesting to reflect on how old two iconic, forever young, figures would actually be if alive. I don’t know many politicians who compare to Churchill, who had a wealth of experience before he became PM, but didn’t become PM until he was 65.
