So the premise of this episode was essentially: what if you took the kids of Jesus Camp to its logical extreme? While I tend to think that the power and influence of conservative Christian extremists on a mass scale is overstated (I think they have powerful acolytes but there aren’t as many of them), I think we ignore their danger at our peril. Anybody who thinks their God is bigger than someone else’s God and is given a weapon is dangerous.
I have always loved L & O, and always told people that I have never seen a bad episode. Well, that all ends with this episode. This was a most ridiculous attempt to draw an equivalency between Catholics, and Muslim Jihadists. Please, where on this planet, even ONCE – where has anything like this EVER happened (please, Im not talking about the crusades…Im talking recent times here)? This was so stupid its not even funny. They wanted to make it seem as though Christians are just as dangerous as Islamic Fanatics. It was so stupid it doesnt even warrant any more discussion. Shame on the Law and Order writers. Thids was pathetic, simply p[athetic. In a world where we have honor killings left and right, and jihadists training kids to be suicide bombers – Law and Order finds it necessary to write an episode like this one ?
Why ?
Why not write a more realistic episode ? Its like they are trying to say, “Hey – ignore all those honor killings, and videos of 6 year olds waging AK-47’s in Pakistan…ignore all that, because our Christian fanatics are just as bad”.
Only problem is theres no basis in reality for this episode. They go on to write a total fantasy episode like this. Please, what stupidity.
There are “christian” homes and boarding schools, camps and programs all over the US and elsewhere.
They use physical and psychological abuse, under the guise of christianity.
People have died while in their care, and after leaving due to the treatment received in these places.
They are real, and deadly.
I know.
I was in one called New Bethany which, after decades of operation, was finally raided and shut down. But not before some died.
There is legislation before congress now that deals with regulating these places.
Unfortunately, this show is based in reality.
