The Associated Press For McCain

The biggest obstacle to a national conversation in the election this fall will be the way in which the mainstream media will run interference for John McCain. They are his base in a way in which the conservative movement never has nor will be. In this instance, one of the attendees at McCain’s barbecue with the press, Libby Quaid, has serviced the “maverick” with a love note disguised as an AP story:

John McCain traveled like a man of the people Friday morning, riding an Amtrak train to Philadelphia after a late night of voting in Washington.

McCain, accompanied by a campaign aide, was left alone by the public as he sat in the first-class car for much of the 1 1/2 hour trip.

Do you know many “men of the people” who ride first class? I don’t. But if you’re a shill at the AP, I guess you do. I wonder what McCain put in that meat?

  • And I love how a “man of the people” rides Amtrak, one of the most expensive forms of transportation known to man. If he’s truly a “man of the people,” I’d like to see McCain take the Greyhound from the Union Station metro stop.

  • Hey, he’s taking mass transit. Doesn’t that win him any Gore points?

By the way, it’s hard to take your claim that the MSM will bias towards McCain come November when 48 hours after he clinched the nomination, out came the stories that he had an affair and that he probably isn’t even an American citizen.

  • Enlightened Liberal

Yes, the “main of the people” spent $206 to travel from Philadelphia to Washington one way- a distance of about 120 miles. Greyhound has a bus special from Philadelphia to Washington of $25 on a non-refundable fare.

If McCain were a Democrat, this would be his $400 haircut. Other stories not covered by the liberal media…

    1. Mrs. McCain’s drug problem.
    2. John McCain’s sudden conversion from being a Methodist to being a (politically advantageous) Southern Baptist on the eve of his 2000 run for President.
    3. McCain’s temper.

  • Joe Biden takes the train from Delaware to Washington everyday. Does that make him more of a man than John McCain?

  • What happened, the Straight Talk Express catch fire?

  • Hell, he could have taken the Chinatown bus for $15 each way.

  • Hey, for the six-figure meda, this is “of the people”.

  • Anyone who takes a car or bus from DC to Philly does so because they can’t afford the train. And anyone who flies from DC to Philly is a moron.

So, wow, what a compliment. I can see the headline: “MCCAIN NOT A MORON.” Stop the presses!

  • SaveFarris: “…and that he probably isn’t even an American citizen.

A: The children of American citizens are American citizens regardless of where they are born. B: His parents were both American citizens. Therefore: He was born an American citizen is true.

If the logic of this escapes anyone, they should not be allowed to vote because they are an idiot.

Can we not bring this one up again now?

  • Gosh! Does Senator McCain, like, breathe and stuff like us too? Wow! He’s everything the press always wanted!!!

  • By rights McCain should be banned from Amtrak for life given his attitude towards trains and mass transit in general, e.g., he’s the most consistent and vociferous opponent of Amtrak there is in the Senate.

  • I wonder what McCain put in that meat?

Or what mccain put that meat in.
