Ben Smith found a telling quote from Geraldine Ferraro from back in 1988 when Jesse Jackson ran for president.
Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don’t ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his “radical” views, “if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.”
Geraldine Ferraro apparently has a problem with us uppity blacks who don’t know our place.
So far, the best the Clinton camp can do is refer to a rejection of Ferraro’s statements that never happened.
But. But. But. I’m sure she doesn’t have a problem with “You People” voting for Democrats! She’s one of the old guard Dems that never figured African Americans might actually want to drive the ship of state. We sure have learned quite a bit about some of the weaknesses in the Democratic Party since Iowa, haven’t we?
She’s one of those Old Guard Dems that forgot the rest of her ilk took flight from the party about forty years ago.
So if Obama doesn’t get the nomination you’re voting for mccain?
I call plagiarism.
I have a really simple, elegant response to this whole thing for the Obama Team.
Wanna hear it?
Hire Stephanie back.
don’t even say anything, just put her back on the team.
Apparently, she was right.
And if anyone objects to Obama’s working with Stephanie again because she’d called Hillary a Monster he should just say (as Olberman suggested) “Hillary’s not a Monster…. as far as I know.”
Exactly right, Sean.
I don’t object to Samantha Power coming back. I wish she would have been more specific and called Hillary Clinton “the Benedict Arnold of the Democratic party”.
So.. I take it you guys disagree with her original contention that Obama would not be where he is if he was white?
Haplo9 – Ferraro’s remarks, besides being racist, are ridiculous on their face. False-logically, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should have skyrocketed to the Democratic nominations due merely to their blackness.
Stephanie s/b Samantha. But y’all knew that.
#So.. I take it you guys disagree with her original contention that Obama would not be where he is if he was white?
Yes.
So.. I take it you guys disagree with her original contention that Obama would not be where he is if he was white?
He is where he is because of who he is and what he has done.
We can play “what-if” endlessly, changing not only his race, but his gender, his place of birth, his parentage, his place of residence, his schooling, his profession, even his height, weight, and zodiac sign.
Tinker with any of these factors and you can speculate on the outcome. Explain why anyone should assume that his race trumps all other factors in importance.
Ms. Ferraro,
I am terribly disappointed. Your recent suggestion that Mr. Obamas’ success happened only because he is black is especially painful. To think that being black in America is a lucky thing strikes me as being inconsiderate.
I am a black person born the same year as Mr. Obamas’ wife 1964, and I can tell you there was no time in my life being black a lucky thing, or are you unaware of the sad and continuing legacy of American race relations. You disregard Mr. Obamas’ legitimate and laudable accomplishments by attributing them to one thing, and it’s the one thing Mr. Obama tries least to be – a man of race. Mr. Obama is a child of God, a husband, a father, a university graduate and a lawyer. Mr. Obama has been a stellar state representative of Illinois and he is currently a United States Senator, and great American. Somewhere probably in the high teens of the list of things Mr. Obama is would be black man.
The statements you have made and defend amount to making his race his primary attribute. You are playing the race card in a manner that is insulting, and quite frankly would be more expected from the kind of reactionary people America has hopefully outgrown.
In 1984 I was a student at the University of Southern California an institution with a traditionally conservative bent. I remember campaigning for and ardently defending a certain congressperson from New York as being more than just a woman, but a person regardless of gender worthy to potentially lead this country. I’m sorry to know now that I was wrong, and all the time any Gerard really would have sufficed.
He is where he is because of … what he has done.
And that is …
“So.. I take it you guys disagree with her original contention that Obama would not be where he is if he was white?”
Do you disagree with my contention that McCain would not be where he is if he was black? Because your side has a lot more problems in the race department, in particular electing them.
He is where he is because of … what he has done.
And that is …
See Mr. Johnson’s post above.
Uh, get more delegates than any other Democrat?
More delegates, more votes, more states.
I see a pattern starting to emerge here.
Or, y’know, visit his website, where he LISTS THESE THINGS IN PLAIN ENGLISH.
Seriously, is it just laziness that allows the “he’s accomplished nothing!” meme to continue? Will people only start saying “Hm, maybe he’s done some good here and there” if he recites all of it from a clipboard at every campaign stop?
He could, but it’s boring as hell. Kerry tried it because he no longer had the oratory power to inspire, and the GOP beat him over the head with their emotion-based cries of OhNoGayPeople!!!
This year, we have learned that Kathleen Gingrich, Newt’s mother, was absolutely right in her assessment of Hillary…
Oh, and eff you, Knave Farris.

Preview would help. But what I really need is a “redo” button. Otherwise, it seems they way my fingers go sometimes? I’m never gonna get more than few yards off my own goal…
[...] the ticket. According to a blog report I just read, this isn’t the first time Ferraro has bashed an uppity black man’s run for President. Way to go, Hillary, for having ZERO BALLS to tell this woman what a creepy bitch she is. Maybe [...]
Wait.. who fouled out?
OLiver, can we get the preview button back?
Some folks are nver happy.
“Takebacks” button, please.
At first I thought this statement by Geraldine Ferraro, was her first ever, that was actually true. I said it months before she did, but I was a still quite surprised when she did (knowing that it would hurt Hillary’s campaign). However, now I think that maybe that’s not the reason, or a least not the only reason, for Obama’s sudden surge in popularity. As it turns out, Obama is a relative of both Dick Cheney and George W. Bush. This is most likely the real reason for his sudden “rocket ship” to the top of presidential contenders. You see, presidents are selected, not elected. Obama, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a globalist organization, with ties to the Illuminati (the people that really run this country, and the planet). In fact, most of those running, including Hillary Clinton, are members of the CFR as well. But Obama, being a CFR member whom is also related of both the vice president and the president of the U.S. gives him an even bigger edge. You see, 95% of all U.S. presidents are from the same bloodline. It doesn’t matter what party they belong to, or what rhetoric they espouse. It’s all just smoke and mirrors because they are simply different masks on the same face. The Clinton’s are merely cronies for the Bush family empire. Remember, the MENA incident? That was CIA’s arms and drug running operation thru Mena, Arkansas, during Clinton’s tenure as Governor there. Thus, Bill Clinton, helped facilitate those operations (to some degree). The Clinton’s are also members of the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergs, and the Bohemian Club (only Bill here, because the club only offers membership to males), three more elitist organizations that are other facets of the Illuminati. Bill Clinton, denies being a member of the Bohemian Club despite being listed as an attendee at their Bohemian Grove retreats.
My recommendation: Vote for your local stuff, but leave the president spot blank! They are all crooked and are in cahoots behind closed doors.
DON’T be FOOLED any longer!
