Does Sen. Clinton think this works for her? Really? She’s been hitting Sen. Obama on his health care plan, hitting him on being a terror sympathizer, and on and on for months now (ask the millions of black voters who thought the world of Bill Clinton and have been forced to think less of him because of his behavior, including myself).
If you’re making the argument that you’re battle tested against the Republican noise machine, flying off the handle over a few mailers kind of upends that.
The short answer: Yes, Hilary Clinton thinks this works for her.
The longer answer:
Yes. The fact that she didn’t fire Mark Penn, tell Taylor Marsh to cool it, and revamp her campaign towards the machine-like competence engine that her dead-enders seem to think it is and was, even after the ‘Guiliani it until Ohio and Texas’ answer to Super Tuesday, says it all.
They believe it. If they don’t, they are suffering from the greatest case of mass delusion ever suffered in the history of American politics.
That you get Obama supporters to abandon him by insulting them. That you cancel out hope by slinging mud at it. That you rally the Democratic party by trying to carve the party into two warring factions so she can get 50.1 percent of it. All of it.
It’s why Hilary Clinton has been in danger of losing, and now looks like she is just running out the string, for a while now.
They think they’ve done a swell job.
Can you imagine what the hard rightwing would do to a Penn-helmed national campaign at this point? Dukakis looking like Clinton by comparison comes to mind.
I’ve heard this particular mailer has been out since Feb. 4th. Why complain about it now?
The problem, it seems to me, is that Hillary cannot understand that this isn’t about her. She is the candidate but she is also supposed to be the mouthpiece for a movement. She seems really off her game and therefore pretty much toast at this point. I liked Bill and I respect her, but there is no way I want to spend the next four years from the Democratic bunker while the right-wing attacks the Clintons, particularly when we have the Republicans in such disarray and therefore such an opportunity for real change.
Man, she sounds like my mom when she rants like that.
A scold.
