This November: More of the same old? More of the same? Or a change to something new?
For years, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has railed against lobbyists and the influence of “special interests” in Washington, touting on his campaign Web site his fight against “the ‘revolving door’ by which lawmakers and other influential officials leave their posts and become lobbyists for the special interests they have aided.”
But when McCain huddled with his closest advisers at his rustic Arizona cabin last weekend to map out his presidential campaign, virtually every one was part of the Washington lobbying culture he has long decried. His campaign manager, Rick Davis, co-founded a lobbying firm whose clients have included Verizon and SBC Telecommunications. His chief political adviser, Charles R. Black Jr., is chairman of one of Washington’s lobbying powerhouses, BKSH and Associates, which has represented AT&T, Alcoa, JPMorgan and U.S. Airways.
Senior advisers Steve Schmidt and Mark McKinnon work for firms that have lobbied for Land O’ Lakes, UST Public Affairs, Dell and Fannie Mae.
He’s gonna “change” Washington… by bringing in more lobbyists to make it even worse.

I bet when St. McCain was flying on lobbyists’ private jets, it was because he was flying to stop some other senator in another state from getting onto someone else’s private jet. Good for him!
And I’m sure he donated all the money the lobbyists gave him to opensecrets.org, too. He’s such a straight-shooting ethical maverick, that McCain! Sure he cheated on his first wife with the rich heiress who became his second wife, but I’m sure he’d *never* cheat on the rich heiress!
He’s simply too ethical! Just ask Chris Matthews!
I think an interesting facet of this story is that conservatives lack of core principles has been exhibited again. During the primaries, there was all kinds of hand wringing about how McCain wasn’t a “real” conservative and how they would stay home in protest. This scandal has shown that in the end, they will go to the mats to defend ANYONE with an (R) after their name.
For Republicans, there are no principles, its all about what “team” you are on. It’s too bad they put their “team” over principles, and sadly ahead of their country.
Move on to the defense of Rick Renzi…
Thanks to the fine Americans at freerepublic.com, I found this sweet photo of corrupt Arizona Senator John McCain posing with his campaign co-chair, Corrupt Congressman Rick Renzi. Thanks, Freepers! You were right about McCain — he’s a total phony!

Once again, it just proves that when a republican stands for something, it means just the opposite.
He’s simply too ethical! Just ask Chris Matthews!
Yes, all very well and good, but does he smell good?
