Scrounging For Outrage
Tweet
At one point the outbursts from Sen. Clinton’s much too zealous supporters in the blogosphere got me kind of angry because of the way they think it serves some kind of purpose to tear down a possible Democratic nominee for president for no good reason. But now, I almost pity them. A few weeks ago they sought to create something called “the snub” that never happened, then there was the “you’re likeable” compliment that morphed into an insult against women through their bizarro vision, followed by Ted Kennedy’s supposed betrayal for exercising his right to endorse Sen. Obama. Now the flailing has reached such a ridiculous level that you aren’t supposed to react to what Obama says but instead you should somehow decode what he says and hidden inside you’re supposed to find sexism.
I have heard that if you play his 2004 convention speech backwards then translate it to French it says “Paul is dead”.

Wow, you really pegged it, Oliver. That’s totally scrounging for outrage.
Along the same lines, I’m not sure if you’ve seen this site yet, but it performs a valuable service:

Plus you’re on the blogroll there.
That is awesome. Great find, riffle.
Olibama,
I beg your pardon, but “periodically feeling down” doesn’t take much decoding, now does it?
Oliver, aside from Obama and the New England Patriots, you’re a great commentator. On those two subjects, though…
So if I got this right, anytime somebody points out an attack on Hillary it’s “scrounging for outrage”, but anytime somebody points out a negative on Obama, it’s “Obama Derangement Syndrome”?
Do you have a snappy cognomen for “blissfully ignorant of one’s own hypocrisy”?
Didn’t have to scrounge very far IMO.
Obama starts launching “period” missiles and someone’s gonna get hurt, and it ain’t gonna be Hillary.
To me, it’s a sign that someone in his campaign is angry, and that someone is looking to get down and dirty with the Clintons.
So far, Obama’s been all Teflon and above the fray, but stuff like this will wear that coating off mighty quick.
Just sayin.
So the standard for sexism is so ill-defined that Obama’s comment (“I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically when she’s feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal.”) is somehow sexist?
Yeah, I’d call that scrounging for outrage.
Why not just label any mention of “down” as “THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL!” so you can just maintain a heady froth of outrage all your days.
Couldn’t “periodically feeling down” refer to her poll numbers?
Just askin’.
But WellStone’s right.
