Now Ringo, this is what Oliver wrote:

Now, an odious person is somebody that is hateful, detestable, or highly offensive.

I countered by basically saying that millions of New Yorkers didn’t feel that way when they elected him and then re-elected him (in a landslide) to that post.

Oliver responds with:

“If Rudy wasn’t so odious he would be the GOP nominee, no?”

Well, that make no sense. Just because he’s not going to be the GOP nominee doesn’t make him odious. So I responded that such logic dictates you could say the same thing about John Edwards since he’s not the nominee.

Oliver responds with:

“Sen. Edwards and Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton and hell Sen. McCain for that matter haven’t had to pull out of caucus and primary again and again because the more they showed up the worse their poll numbers did. That’s what happened with Giuliani.”

Well, that’s not what happened. But even if it did, how does this lend credibility to Oliver’s original statement, that Giuliani is one of the “most odious figures in U.S. political history, Rudy Giuliani.”?

Answer: It doesn’t.

People should be prepared to back up such grandiose statements.

And then, apparently without irony…
