The Upside Of Tonight’s Republican Primary

Barring a miracle, we’re likely going to have sideline tickets to the political funeral of one of the most odious figures in U.S. political history, Rudy Giuliani. Good riddance!

  1. Diamond LeGrande says:

I want Giuliani to do well enough to stay in the race as long as possible, until at least after Super Tuesday. I suspect most of his support would go to McCain, hence my logic. Frankly, pulling even double-digits would be enough to stay in the race given how paltry the delegate count is until Super Tuesday.

  2. Jay says:

Yes, it would have been sooooo much better for the city of New York had the voters re-elected the most incompetent mayor the city ever had, David Dinkins. And things would have gone swimmingly if either Ruth Messinger or Al Sharpton would have won in 1997. Odious figure my ass.

  3. If Rudy wasn’t so odious he would be the GOP nominee, no? I don’t disagree with many of the things he did in NYC, but most of us certainly don’t want his brand of venom in the White House.

  4. midderpidge says:

    “Odious figure my ass.”

You know Jay, if it’s that odious, you should consider wiping it. Your thumb is there, it’s not busy, and considering the amount of time your head spends up there…

  5. SaveFarris says:

but most of us certainly don’t want his brand of venom in the White House.

Yes, we much prefer the Clinton brand of venom: the type we’ve seen on display these last few weeks.

  6. Enlightened Liberal says:

America has spoken farris, it would rather have the so-called Clinton “venom” than Rudy 9/11!

  7. Jay says:

If Rudy wasn’t so odious he would be the GOP nominee, no?

So I suppose I could say the same thing about John Edwards, correct? And if Obama doesn’t get the nomination, does it mean he was odious as well?

    Cmon dude.

  8. pd100 says:

    See ya Ghouliani.

Don’t let the skyscraper collapse on you on the way out.

  9. Oliver Willis says:

Sen. Edwards and Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton and hell Sen. McCain for that matter haven’t had to pull out of caucus and primary again and again because the more they showed up the worse their poll numbers did. That’s what happened with Giuliani.

  10. Jay says:

Oliver, give it a rest. You went from sounding silly to sounding just plain stupid.

  11. The quality of Mewwika’s Mare’s opposition doesn’t alter the fact that he’s a fucking psycho asswipe who fired the best chief the NYPD ever had just because he wouldn’t suck his balls, and went on to basically turn the city into a police state, in which anyone that Safir’s testosterone-fuelled “hunters of men” killed (Dorismond, Diallo) got personally insulted and anyone who criticised the mayor specifically had his life basically destroyed. Oh, and he gives a corrupt scumbag called Bernard Kerik as much power as he likes at the first opportunity.

  12. Nimrod Gently says:

Oliver, give it a rest. You went from sounding silly to sounding just plain stupid.

Shorter Jay: LA LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA

  13. Jay says:

Hey Ringo, please tell me how Oliver’s comments make ANY sense.

    I await your intoxicating insight.

He’s saying that because Giuliani isn’t the nominee, that proves he’s odious. Therefore, such BRILLIANT logic would extend to why John Edwards isn’t the nominee. Then Oliver backtracks and attempts to say Giuliani is “odious” because he to “pull out of” caucuses and primaries. Really? Which ones?

Sweet Jesus. People pull statements out of their ass and when they cannot defend such statements, they get catty. So do me a favor Nimrod, explain how Oliver’s comment has merit or go back to watching the telly.

  14. Enlightened Liberal says:

Wow, you call him Ringo because he’s British right? And that’s why you referred to the “telly” too! Gee, Jay you’re so clever and kewwwwl.

“Sweet Jesus. People pull statements out of their ass and when they cannot defend such statements, they get catty.”

This is a pretty much true statement in general but coming from jay it is high comedy. What an ass.

  15. Nimrod Gently says:

Thanks, EL, for saving me the trouble of typing that.

Jay, your argument is that Oliver said Rudy’s odious because he failed miserably, when it’s actually totally the other way around, and anyone with common sense can see that. Just thought I’d mention it.

I know nothing about Rudy “pulling out” of primaries and caucusi, this is the first I’ve heard of it. You’ll have to ask Oliver to elaborate. If it’s true, it’s incredibly funny.

  16. Dr. Squid says:

“He’s saying that because Giuliani isn’t the nominee, that proves he’s odious. Therefore, such BRILLIANT logic would extend to why John Edwards isn’t the nominee. Then Oliver backtracks and attempts to say Giuliani is “odious” because he to “pull out of” caucuses and primaries.”

    And then, apparently without irony…

“People pull statements out of their ass and when they cannot defend such statements, they get catty.”

Leave it to a conservative to make those comments in succession.

  17. Jay says:

Hey EL, shaddup. I’m always joking with Nimrod that way so get stuck buddy. Of course you have nothing to add other than play CS Stowbridge ‘light’ but that’s not anything new.

Now Ringo, this is what Oliver wrote:

“…most odious figures in U.S. political history, Rudy Giuliani.”

Now, an odious person is somebody that is hateful, detestable, or highly offensive.

I countered by basically saying that millions of New Yorkers didn’t feel that way when they elected him and then re-elected him (in a landslide) to that post.

    Oliver responds with:

“If Rudy wasn’t so odious he would be the GOP nominee, no?”

Well, that make no sense. Just because he’s not going to be the GOP nominee doesn’t make him odious. So I responded that such logic dictates you could say the same thing about John Edwards since he’s not the nominee.

    Oliver responds with:

“Sen. Edwards and Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton and hell Sen. McCain for that matter haven’t had to pull out of caucus and primary again and again because the more they showed up the worse their poll numbers did. That’s what happened with Giuliani.”

Well, that’s not what happened. But even if it did, how does this lend credibility to Oliver’s original statement, that Giuliani is one of the “most odious figures in U.S. political history, Rudy Giuliani.”?

    Answer: It doesn’t.

People should be prepared to back up such grandiose statements.

  18. “Hey EL, shaddup. I’m always joking with Nimrod that way so get stuck buddy. Of course you have nothing to add other than play CS Stowbridge ‘light’ but that’s not anything new.”

I’m not even here and he attacks me. So much for playing the victim, Jay.

  19. Enlightened Liberal says:

“People should be prepared to back up such grandiose statements.”

Stop it you’re killing me man !!!! What a douche. When have you ever backed up anything you say? Did you forget to open the garage door when you started your car this morning?

  20. Nimrod Gently says:

Oliver just said he was odious in general, and went on to postulate that this may have something to with the fact that no-one likes him. You’re just arguing because…fuck knows.

  21. Jay says:

Oliver just said he was odious in general

Uhhhh….no. He said he is “one of the most odious figures in U.S. political history.”

    You’re just arguing because

…Oliver made a bullshit statement. And I called him on it.

It seems too many of your are happiest when everybody just sits around and pants over whatever he writes. God forbid somebody challenges it.

  22. Nimrod Gently says:

Uhhhh….no. He said he is “one of the most odious figures in U.S. political history.”

Which is different from saying he’s generally odious because why exactly?

It seems too many of your are happiest [?] when everybody just sits around and pants over whatever he writes. God forbid somebody challenges it.

Dude, you’re not challenging anything, you’re just being a douche.

  23. Quaker in a Basement says:

Odious? I think Oliver’s being generous.

    Me, I’d go with loathsome.

  24. Jay says:

Dude, you’re not challenging anything, you’re just being a douche.

    And you’re just being a poopy-head.

I can play baby games too Ringo.

  25. Zython says:

I can play baby games too Ringo.

What the hell do you have against the Beetles?

He’s saying that because Giuliani isn’t the nominee, that proves he’s odious.

No, you’re confusing cause & effect again. Oliver’s saying that Gulliani’s not the nominee BECAUSE he’s odious, not the other way around.

Jesus Christ, Jay, do you really hate America THAT much?
