I have two guesses:

1. He thinks he can knock out Hillary and then pick up her voters by being the "experienced" candidate as opposed to Obama.  I don't think Hillary will drop out and neither do you (or any other sentient human).  But Edwards is a dreamer.

2. He's already running for Veep ... again...
