It Was A Happening

Something happened last night. I don’t think America got it yet. I have a feeling we’ll see some crazy numbers come South Carolina time and the media will ask "where did that come from"?

Sadly, OW, I think the right-wingers got the message. Remember when they were claiming that Obama wasn’t really black and other similar bullshit? Well, based on what I’ve been reading this morning they have discovered that Obama is, indeed, black after all.
One of the reasons I would like to see Obama get the nomination is that it’s time to force Americans to confront their racism. I thought as much the same thing with Jesse Jackson in 1988. Back then I thought, “No way but let’s do it anyway to stick it to the man.” This year I am thinking, “Well, maybe, but . . . I don’t know.”
As I’ve mentioned before, I am an Edwards guy, but completely comfortable with Obama as my second choice. I like and agree with Edwards’s declaration that it is going to take a fighter to bring change. But I disagree with the claim made by many Edwards supporters that Obama is not a fighter. It’s beyond naive. You can’t get from where he started to where he is without fighting.
If Obama gets the nomination he will be in the fight not just of his life but of all our lives. His campaign is daring Americans to be a great people. I expect the worst.
