"How do we beat the bitch?"

Just polarizing on the bitch front will swing a few independent and right-leaning women over to Clinton, if she wins outright. It's enough in a polarized world split by a few hundred thousand votes.

I'd rather she not be the nominee, but if she is, she's the Democratic equivalent to Karl Rove. She'll play situations to short-term gain with ease.

Fuck, if Bush won at least once on that strategy, Clinton can. As much as I find her odious, at least she's not a total moron. You could do worse. Of course, you could do way better.

"I think whomever wins this thing, will piss off a lot of party faithful."

Any truly contended convention should create such division. It's actually rather healthy, if managed right. I've always been amazed at the unity of American leadership conventions. In Canada in virtually every party, a coronation at the convention is the exception, and those coronated have mixed records at best.

If Hillary is the nominee, we'll be able to separate GOP voters into two groups--those who think she murdered Vince Foster and those who think she had someone else do it for her.

If Hillary runs, the Republican faithful will get so loud and shrill

"How do we beat the bitch?"

"Will" get so loud and shrill? It's already started.

I'm not a Hillary Clinton supporter, but I'm fairly sure she can out-campaign anything the GOP throws at her. They couldn't take down her husband, and as canny a political animal as Bill is, Hillary's at least his equal if not more.

If Hillary runs, the Republican faithful will get so loud and shrill they will alienate the independent voters. Romney is already running anti-Hillary ads.

"While that may be true, 128% of them will forget their grievences and support the Republican candidate guns-a-blazin if Madame Clinton is the other name on the ballot. I don't know what they'll do vs. Obama because at this point, he's still something of a cypher."

Bullshit. Hillary Clinton actually steals a lot of Republican women. Also, there will be at least one right wing third party candidate this year (Ron Paul), who will steal 4 or 5 percentage points from the Republicans. Maybe enough to be considered an official party and be eligible for Federal funds. But at this point he might not need the money to match the Republicans.

Actually, this sounds like a typical Mitt Romney response.

"When I said no Democrats dropped out, I was using a metaphor. I'm an English major. We can make words do anything."

"Gravel will stay in until he dies."

...If that hasn't happened already.

Seriously, who has seen him last?

"Republicans are going for a proper leadership convention, so anyone with 15% of delegates after Feb. 5 has a chance."

I think whomever wins this thing, will piss off a lot of party faithful. If Huckabee comes out on top, the money Republicans will shit bricks. If Giuliani or Romney wins, the Evangelicals will freak, maybe even leave the party for a Christian Right party. If McCain wins, he'll lose the racist, xenophobic vote. If Thompson win... someone will have to wake him from his nap.

"Ron Paul will live forever, and with real support. But he'll be the Libertarian candidate by the end of this,"

He's already said as much, just not in those words. He's raising money for an independent run, and I wish him luck.

Who's next?

Gravel will stay in until he dies. As will Kucinich. Dodd, Biden and Richardson gone by Feb. 5 - Edwards potentially depending on IA and NH.

Republicans are going for a proper leadership convention, so anyone with 15% of delegates after Feb. 5 has a chance. Our current Liberal leader in Canada got the gig after finishing fourth on first ballot in a brokered convention. Anything is possible in a four or five person race. It should be very interesting.

I can't see Thompson or Giuliani making the cut though. Thompson's IA surge is already boring, and even Iowa thinks so. And Giuliani is flaming out so bad he's off everyone's VP list, I'd bet.

Ron Paul will live forever, and with real support. But he'll be the Libertarian candidate by the end of this, and the party will pull a Nader and swing the election. He's going to have a hard time backing off $20M in funds to support the top three, all of whom gladly piss all over Paul's noble, if delusional, positions.

In a Huckabee, Romney and McCain showdown, though, it's anyone's guess. I'm guessing McCain. Huckabee has too many enemies from within and would tank on the main stage, and Romney's simply too full of bullshit.

"Unlike idiots like you I admit when I'm wrong. I totally forgot about Vilsack and Brownback."

Vilsack forgot he used to be running for President.

Seriously, outside the running gag on The Daily Show, what did he do on the campaign trail?

Unlike idiots like you I admit when I'm wrong. I totally forgot about Vilsack and Brownback. There's still a disparity in GOP dropouts vs Dem ones. That'll probably be fixed by IA and NH.
