The Stop Huckabee Movement
Tweet
For a long time the right has stoked the fires of the religious far right, always ready to pounce on their fear of gay marriage, the unknown and the boogeyman of the moment to get them out to vote. In 2006 that began to break down as the Wall Street right rejected the laughable nomination of Harriet Miers while the nativist wing of the party got upset about the immigration bill.
Now one of the religious right’s boys is getting close to the nomination, and unlike Bush he doesn’t just talk the game while working for the big money folks, Huckabee makes these people think he’s going to push their agenda. This scares the heck out of the establishment because they know the religious right, while valuable, is way out of the mainstream – more so than the minority groups that make up the Democratic coalition. They will lose even bigger than they’re forecast to lose with one of these guys up top, and the big money won’t be there to be Pioneers and Rangers and the like.
