Media, no, he tied the kennel to the roof of his car. The phrase "chaining him to the top of his car" brings up an image in my head of the dog literally chained to the top of the car. No kennel, just the dog tied to the roof of the car. It's a phrase that would be used to describe how a prisoner "was chained to the wall of his cell".

And, while I absolutely agree that Romney was stupid to try to transport his dog that way on a 12-hour drive, and even stupider to not realize it was cruel after the dog crapped on the car, I also see describing it as the dog being chained to the car as inaccurate.

(And I know Romney used it as an example of his calm decision making in a crisis situation. To me it seems a far better example of his complete inability to adjust to circumstances. And isn't another stick-to-the-original-plan no-matter-what President exactly what we don't need?)

Sean, he DID chain his dog up to the roof of the car, albeit in a kennel. But there was chaining, and there was a dog on his roof, who subsequently defecated all over the car because it was so traumatized. (And Romney uses this story as an EXAMPLE of his brilliant leadership skills.)

I think you're splitting hairs. You're splitting Romney's beautiful, dark, K-Lo-orgasm-inducing hairs, but hairs nonetheless.

Let's be fair, Media Glutton. Romney did leave his dog in its kennel on his car roof for a long drive. It was extremely stupid of Romney and very cruel to the dog. But a far cry from the image "chaining him to the top of the car" brings up.

I hope next time someone who is dogging Mitt Romney can also point out that Mitt Romney dogged his own dog by chaining him to the top of his car for a long car ride.
