Looks pretty good, but I remain disappointed with Heath Ledger’s “Joker” makeup. It’s a little too realistic for me. I understand that the aesthetic of the Christian Bale Batman is more realistic, but let’s not forget that this is a comic book world. I think I still prefer Jack Nicholson’s look.

I am with you on the Joker’s make-up. And the hair, too.
Batman is unreal; his villains are unreal. It’s what makes it work.
I know I am only looking at the trailer, but the Joker looked less like a super-villain and more like a pathetic mime.
Oliver apparently doesn’t know the origin of the Joker, and doesn’t care. The person who did post the trailer doesn’t offer any explanation either, but it’s obvious he has a major hard-on for batman.

Another Batman movie? And Joker again? I saw this during the previews for I Am Legend, a movie worth seeing.

Couldn’t disagree more. Batman is real: he’s the only major superhero that doesn’t actually have super powers.
I love these comics threads, it presents me the rare opportunity to agree with Farris or Jay or anybody else who I disagree with on everything else.
I think the trailer is great; and Nicholson’s makeup wouldn’t work on the character Ledger is playing. However, Ledger sounds exactly right.
I will say that if Nolan makes the mistake–or, if the studio makes him make the mistake–of having the Joker die at the end of this film, he, like Burton, will have missed the whole point of the Joker.
I don’t think the makeup is a big deal. The Joker is more about him being a homicidal maniac, than him looking like a clown.
As much as I like the first Batman that Tim Burton directed, Burton couldn’t seem to decide if the Joker was a crazed killer or a variation of the 50′s and 60′s Joker that was just a trickster who committed some crimes.

Reserving final judgment until I see the trailer with sound (none here at the office) and actually see the final movie. But, yeah, based on the silent trailer, not that taken with the makeup.

Steve Rogers received his super-strength from an experimental serum. Bruce Wayne earned his athleticism and other skills the old-fashioned way…by earning them.
Batman is also real in that he’s one of the few superheroes about whom it is acknowledged that the very act of becoming a costumed vigilante is a result of a damaged psyche.
That is, he’s like a real-world vigilante, albeit one with a more developed moral code and discipline than your typical Bernard Goetz.

If we’re only looking at abilities a person inherently has, and disregarding any special tech then use, then there are a whole host of folks who qualify.

I really hate to seem like a real square here but when you guys write sentences like one that begins with the above phrase, can you all please put real in quotes? I think you’d all sound less crazy that way …
But Batman IS real, “fafaroo”. He lives in my basement. He is watching you now with his high-tech gizmos.

Yes, really. Sure kryptonite can beat Superman, but if Batman went head to head with Supes, there would be little bat-bits to clean up.
It’s worth noting, Oliver, that Supes gave Batman that Kryptonite because he was the only person he trusted not only to use it if Superman ever needed to be taken down, but also that he trusted Batman alone to be capable of getting close enough to use it.
But head-to-head, sure. That’s not even a question.
I like the makeup. Very psycho. Very scary.
