Obama’s Presidential Book Club

Coming off of a president who, despite the spin of his defenders, we all know is not “a reader”, this is a refreshing concept.

Diann Oswald, 39, a librarian from Dubuque on the post-event rope line, asked Obama to put more books “in the hands of children.”

Obama said he would: “We’re going to have a national book club. Like Oprah’s book club, the president is going to have a book club.”

Coming on the heels of multiple posts complaining about a lack of substance when it comes to election coverage, here comes Obama pandering to the spurrious.

I certainly won’t hold the future “Obama’s Good Reads” against the man. Good for him, capitalism in action I say!! Plus, it might actually be usefull, giving a better read on how him (and his staff) think. But let’s not pretend that if it had been Romney proposing this, you’d be ripping into him claiming he’s not spending enough time on the important issues…

If Mitt Romney proposed something like this I’d be more amazed than upset. Republicans aren’t known for their interest in civic projects.
