Propaganda works.

House Dems fight a little then cave. Senate Dems cave, cave, cave like the French in WWII but with even less resistance.

I’d say the term “herding cats” seems appropriate but herding quislings is more accurate.
God, I hate these fuckers almost as much as I hate the repukes.
Reid is such a pathetic horse’s ass. He is either stupid beyond belief or ethically compromised in the extreme if he doesn’t see the tactic advantage in forcing the GOP to actually filibuster ever bill they want to defeat. He shows no understanding of the value of PUBLIC PERCEPTION and seems to be content to let the nation perceive the Dem Congress as, tah-dah, weak and indecisive…just like the GOP says they are! Way to go Harry! This will certainly play well when the GOP 9/11′s the Dem nominee into submission in the run up to the ’08 elections, much as the GOP has done to you clowns for the past 7 years.
I actually despise the Dems more than the GOP at this point. At least they’re honest and committed to being complete fascist pukes.
It’s weird, but the Dems keep reminding me of a scene from “Saving Private Ryan” (I said it was weird). Near the end of the movie, one of the American soldiers gets into a struggle with a German soldier after both run out of ammo. As the fight turns against the American and the German slowly drives a knife up into his ribs, another American sits cowering in the stairwell, too afraid to come to his friend’s aid. Guess who is the GOP, who symbolizes the Dems, and who represents the American public.
Weird, but it fits.
That is the scariest scene in the whole film for me, not just because of the circumstances you note, but also because Mellish (the soldier being knifed) starts saying things like “Come on, quit it,” as if this was merely childish horseplay with a brother going slightly wrong, instead of deadly serious business. It’s a moment of disbelief that this can actually be happening, that Mellish is in fact being slowly killed by another human being.
bill, I’d say your metaphor is still apt, considering. Because many Americans still won’t believe it, either.
Exactly correct, Spider. That was my take on the scene as well. It was easily the toughest scene to watch in the whole movie.
