Romney Buys The Nomination

Throw that cash around.
Mitt Romney’s charitable foundation gave $253,833 to groups helping the needy and to organizations influential in Republican circles last year, while he was laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign, according to tax records.
In several cases, the groups or figures close to them have now given their support to Romney in his run for the Republican nomination.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington think thank, received $10,000, according to a report filed with the Internal Revenue Service. Its founder, Paul M. Weyrich, recently gave a key endorsement to Romney.

It’s absolutely silly to think $10,000 would buy the support of a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and education institute like Heritage. It’s even more absurd to suggest Heritage would jeopardize its status as a charitable organization by engaging in political activity.
The claim that Romney’s gift to Heritage and Weyrich’s support for Romney are connected makes no sense. Had the Globe reporter bothered to look into it, he would have discovered that Weyrich currently runs the Free Congress Foundation and has had no affiliation with Heritage since 1974.
Yes, Robert, I saw the post on your blog. The idea that the beloved Heritage foundation would do anything untoward is so out of character.
