No matter what happens from today forward, the deaths of 4,000 American service people, the tens of thousands of injuries, the uncounted civilian deaths, the ethnic cleansing, the shattered lives, and the untold cost remain a stain that can’t be washed away with raising a cross or rebuilding a school or waving a purple thumb.

The invasion of Iraq has been a colossal disaster, perhaps the single worst decision in our history. And yet they still keep looking for the pony.

It’s not like this system does anything other than make us safer, damn the exorbitant cost. It’s not like Russia is pulling out of nuclear treaties or gearing up for another cold war right?

The military said they had a successful test of the anti-ballistic missile system, but they are not a reliable source of information.

Before we invaded in Gulf War I, there was a considerable Christian community in Iraq, about 1.4 million. In 2003, that number was about 1 million. Today, it is about 700,000, but sources in country suspect that number to be significantly lower due to forced conversion, killing and emigration. They are leaving Iraq in droves because we don’t offer them security and the Iraqi security apparatus does not offer them security. Given these facts, it is not a smart idea to place an identifying mark on a Christian place of worship in Iraq. There is no harm in pointing that out.

If you really cared about these people or about more than scoring points with the blood of others, you would agree.

BTW, the Patriot was not initially designed to intercept ballistic missiles, it was designed to primarily shoot down aircraft. It was pressed into service in GW I because it was all we had to intercept Saddam’s Scuds. The current ABM system under development, on the other hand, has been designed from the beginning with the intent to shoot down ballistic missiles. Not really an accurate comparison, but don’t let that stop you. Apples & oranges and all that…

Here’s the thing, your claims have been made repeated, in some cases for decades, and they’ve never come true.

It seems pointless to argue the same points over and over again.

By the way, the patriot anti-missile system used the in the first gulf war was said to have a 70% success ration. However, that merely meant that when they pressed the button, the system fired 70% of the time. The actual number of scuds they shot down: Zero. So forgive me if I doubt similar claims this time.

Religious freedom is a good thing and a great goal to work towards. It is not, however, something you can just “install” in a region where different sects of the same religion are killing each other in the first place.
