State Department Employees Win The Lottery

And by “win” I mean “horribly lose”.

The State Department will order as many as 50 U.S. diplomats to take posts in Iraq next year because of expected shortfalls in filling openings there, the first such large-scale forced assignment since the Vietnam War.

On Monday, 200 to 300 employees will be notified of their selection as “prime candidates” for 50 open positions in Iraq, said Harry K. Thomas, director general of the Foreign Service. Some are expected to respond by volunteering, he said. However, if an insufficient number volunteers by Nov. 12, a department panel will determine which ones will be ordered to report to the Baghdad embassy next summer.

Who wants to go to Iraq?

    Oh those poor,poor foreign service officers…..being FORCED, forced I tell you, to serve in a FOREIGN country.

    Who wants to babysit Iraq, especially with the shitstorm coming down there? Volunteer these days means “pack light in bugout style”.

    No shit farkle. Of course these people have to do the duty they signed up for. That said, you think maybe somethings a little screwy in our “victory” that nobody wants the Iraq assignment? I know it hurts, but use your brain for a second.

    Great point, farkle. It’s not like Bush had a choice to invade Iraq or anything. His hands were very clearly tied.

    Right oliver, cause state department people were just DYING to get posted to Dresden or Hiroshima right after WWII……must of been due to that “screwy little victory”……
