Brian Faughman, writing in Rupert Murdoch’s Weekly Standard:
No one’s ever accused Pete Stark of having any class, or of serving as an example for civil discourse in Congress. He’s lived up to his reputation today. During debate this morning, he accused Republicans of funding the war for the fun of seeing innocents die.
The current cover of The Weekly Standard:
You go to war with the discourse you have, not the one you want. Liberals are slowly learning that taking umbrage when you’re being knifed to death is no way to run a country.
“he accused Republicans of funding the war for the fun of seeing innocents die.”
Sometime you have to call it like you see it.
There are elements of the Republican base who cheer the murder of Iraqis. I bet you could get some juicy quotes from the Freepers over the recent Blackwater brutality.
I’m glad Pete Stark is speaking out about it.
Yeah, I don’t get the objection. That’s what they’re doing. The only issue I have is that Stark needs to realize that killing innocents isn’t the aim, but rather a means to the aim (total control), and a perfectly acceptable byproduct of other activities.
Jonah Goldberg has to be the living embodiment of this “civil discourse” baloney. But in any case, I say fight fire with fire, and our big advantage in a knock-down war of UN-civil discourse is that we are right and they are wrong.
Maybe we should ask Rep. Stark if it is the “real” soldiers or the “phony” soldiers who are blowing up Iraqi women and children.
Maybe we should ask Rep. Stark if it is the “real” soldiers or the “phony” soldiers who are blowing up Iraqi women and children.
Wait, it was your hero Rush Limbaugh that called our troops “phony” soldiers. Nice deflection, though.
Maybe we should ask Rep. Stark if it is the “real” soldiers or the “phony” soldiers who are blowing up Iraqi women and children.
“Phony soldiers” is what REPUBLICANS call them.
Here’s what the guy said:
“But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement.”
He’s accusing Bush and his Republican supporters of being responsible for killing innocent people and sending kids to Iraq to get killed.
I would disagree that any of this is for Bush’s amusement, but he’s making the point that Republicans don’t want to spend the money taking care of poor sick kids and would rather send billions more into the Iraqi black hole where those same kids are growing up to go and fight and die.
What part of that isn’t accurate?
But you do bring up another example of these outrage monkeys and “civil discourse” by ironically reminding us that it was conservative voice Rush Limbaugh who called soldiers who don’t agree with him about the war “phonies.”
I don’t think Bush is sociopathic enough to be “amused” by the situation in Iraq. I think he’s too cowardly to admit he made a colossal blunder in the planning and execution of the war, I think he’s too selfish to consider adopting a strategy that might tarnish his tough-guy image of himself, and I think he’s too apathetic to the sacrifices of others to realize what pain his war has caused.
But “amused,” I think, goes too far.
SpiderJ,
Judging from the Smirk’s smirk I’d say that he’s amused by just about everything.
Have you not noticed in old shots of Adolf, how he smiles and fawns over all his kinder. It’s a perfect comparison. In fact (and deed) they are one.
They got a lot of goddam nerve talking about civil discourse.
Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Rielly, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Debbie Schlussel, John Gibson, Glenn Beck, Matt Drudge, Michael Savage, Ann Althouse, Pam Oshry, Every mouth-breather at Redstate.com, every knuckle-dragger at Little Green Footballs…etc., ad nauseum.
These are the people who carry the standard for the right.
How many like-minded people are there on the left? Randi Rhodes?
“I don’t think Bush is sociopathic enough to be “amused” by the situation in Iraq.”
No, but the Freepers are, and that’s his base. In fact, if the 24% approval number is accurate, it’s his only base at the moment.
