Taxes were "too high", so they were cut. Then the economy stalled again, and government revenues fell back further. Solution? More tax cuts. At some point it's not actually possible to cut taxes further, so then they say, "cut spending". Well, they don't actually do much of that, but okay, spending gets cut here and there, and there's still a problem. Somebody figures out the government needs revenue. But if tax cuts are anathema, how do you get out of that hole you've dug for yourself?
