The NeoCons will blame the religious right for taking the party too far to the extreme. Meanwhile, the religious right will blame the lose on abandoning their warped version of Christian values. Also, if it appears the Republican party has no power, there's little reason for the religious right to stay with them. The cost of creating a third party is much, much lower. This schism would kill the Republican party. Eventually the right would regain power, but under a very different form, possibly a different name. Hopefully it will be more like Goldwater and Bush.
